Life has a way of flickering before your eyes. Just when you think you can catch it, it whittles through your fingers like warm sand on the shoreline.
Five years ago I was fifteen, just finishing up my first year of high school.
Ten years ago I was ten, just starting my horridly long awkward stage.
Fifteen years ago I was five, unaware of how brilliant yet vicious the world could be.
Twenty years ago I was slapped on the butt, given a name, and held for the very first time.
I can't say I have ever really thought about what that day could have been like. Although I imagine it was much like any other family's experience. I envision a room leaking with conversation of what my life would be like. Different expectations and aspirations must of flown through the minds of my parents and relatives. Perhaps I may never know what the true predictions of my life were, but I can only hope I surpass what was anticipated for my small imprint I get on this large, yet small, planet.
Life is an enigma no one can truly figure out. None other than Forrest Gump put in better, "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get."
Chocolate is my hands-down favorite thing. I'm sure many agree with me. I could eat just about anything with chocolate; I have never been a picky eater. Of course, I have my choice chocolates out of the box, and many that I willingly take one bite out of and put back for someone else's consumption. Life is a lot like that, too. While we may not know what we will be dealt, we can choose the outcome. For the sake of the analogy, let's acknowledge the not so delectable piece of chocolate. We can put it back, throw it away, or hound it down to show of our bravery and spunk. We so often treat misfortunes as treacherous mountains rather than letting mystery and adventure ensue. Life is a ride that you must ride. There is no choice, you must ride. However, you can choose to enjoy the ride.
Who knew twenty years could fly by so quickly. I cannot imagine how much quicker the rest of my life will fade into the future. Choose to live life to the fullest, before it passes you by.
"To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all." - Oscar Wilde
