Remember These Things When You Bash The Cops

Many people have hopped on the bandwagon of believing the police are the worst, have you?

1. Cops are people too.

Policemen and women are people just like every one of us. They have families, pets, hobbies, even fears. One of those fears has only been amplified by the increasing resistance given by society and the belief that the police are bad. Every day the men and women wearing a badge and uniform worry about being taken away from their friends and families. I bet if you woke up every morning unsure if today was your last, you would be hesitant to trust people as well.

2. Their entire job is to protect you.

Whenever you see a cop, guard, or law enforcement of any kind you should thank them. They spend their days working to keep you safe. You may not know their name, and they may not know yours, but that doesn't matter to them. The only thing they care about is your safety. I don't know about you, but I'd love to meet the people who are wiling to die for my protection.

3. They deal with situations you never could.

Giphy

Have you ever had a nightmare where you face-to-face with a real murderer? A rapist? Or even a full-fledged terrorist? Well that's the life officers face on a daily basis. Their career revolves around living your nightmares so you don't have to. Not all of their jobs are heroic and daring as they seem. A cop I know once had to walk into a room where a man had been dead for 10 days. That is a stench that will make you resent your own nose for being functional.

4. They're more than a badge.

Giphy

You've probably heard stories of cops abusing their power and assaulting innocent people for no reason at all. Unfortunately, this is the reality we live in. However, just because some police officers don't appropriately handle situations, or let race cloud their judgments while in the field, that doesn't mean that all officers of the law behave that way. In fact, most cops are afraid to make arrests because they never know when some kid who doesn't know better will start recording and broadcast a model police officer as a racist.

5. They know you hate them, but they don't care.

Giphy

Policemen and women are aware of the hatred society has for them, but they honestly couldn't care less. They have a job to do and they intend on doing in regardless of the troubles they may face. Cops have always had to deal with criminals hating them and doing what they can to obstruct justice(which is a crime), they can handle it when civilians do the same. They don't like it, they don't deserve it, they shouldn't have to be put through it. But police have always had society's back, and they won't stop now just because a few bad eggs don't appreciate all they've done.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
