When are politicians going to stop taking PAC funding from the NRA and actually care about their constituents lives? Since the shootings this past week not one single republican senator or congressman has made a statement condemning gun laws in their states or making strides to prevent these tragedies happening again. Yes they can condemn these acts and say "our prayers are with the families" but when will real change actually happen?
President Trump tweeted on August 5th that congress should pass legislation to improve background checks BUT to also implement immigration reform in the same bill. If the President really cared about enacting some type of background check to censor who can buy what he would write an executive order, not try and advance his agenda with a tragedy.
The NRA spent 1.6 million dollars in lobbying against expanded background checks to purchase a firearm. They still continue to spend thousands lobbying against different anti-gun violence bills. This just does not make sense to me, the background checks are not hindering their right to bear arms but to make sure that the people who buy them are not going to shoot up a Walmart, school, or concert.
H.R. 8 was passed in the democratic held house and sent to the senate for a final vote but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has yet to allow it on the floor for a vote.
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has had enough of McConnells ill will to act tweeting him: "The House passed HR8 *5 months ago* and the senate has yet to vote on it. It was one of our first major priorities after ending the gov shutdown. You've been sitting on it since February giving bogus excuses.
Care to explain the people why?" It seems as though republicans are sticking to their party lines in fear of not getting re-elected or being "shamed" by the President for going against him to actually stand up and say "wow this is wrong how can I fix it".
When will this administration finally make a change and protect its citizens instead of merely trying to protect their political careers?
