Arguably one of the best food trucks around campus, Don offers authentic Japanese food for an extremely affordable price (depending on the entree). Don is located on 28th and Guadalupe, across the street from Torchy's Tacos.
The food truck is open from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and there is a line even before opening. Each entree comes in a black to-go box with rice, ginger, cabbage, shredded seaweed and your choice between chicken ($5), chicken katsu ($5), beef ($7), veggie and tofu ($5), and pork belly ($9). The portions are extremely large and can keep an average person full for around six hours.
There are also add-ons available for a small price. I recommend the Onsen egg ($1) -- a soft boiled egg that mixes extremely well with the sweet sauce, veggies and rice that comes with the entree.
The food truck has become increasingly popular among students because of the food and the excellent customer service. Run only by two people, Omi Yozen and Eddie Sumner, you could be waiting in line for as long as 45 minutes around lunch time. However, the wait is worth it. The quality of the food is the best you could get, especially for the inexpensive price. The owners really take their time to make the dishes presentable and delicious.
So if you're looking for a delicious, inexpensive meal, stop by Don. You will not be disappointed.
