Chapter 2: Newbie

Eunha and Lilly did everything together. They went to class together, they shared the same lockers, they even had the same classes together. However, the one thing they didn't do together, was get attracted to boys easily.

After being Lilly's best friend for almost 14 years, it was easy to spot her emotional change. Especially when it came to guys. For Eunha; books before boys, unless there was a project involving boys as her partner, then she couldn't refuse.

The two ladies entered the bustling morning high school room and settled their belongings on the desks.

"Eunha. Did you see Jackson today?!" Heejin partially whispered to her. Eunha, not thoroughly amused, smiled and rolled her eyes.

"Yeah yeah. He came and asked for your hand in marriage." Lilly playfully smacked Eunha's arm with her thick book.

"I wish." Lilly sighed, poising as if she was in a daydream. Dreaming of her one and only.

The teacher walked in abruptly, knocking out all the hustle and bustle that was this classroom. Along with her, a dark black haired boy, who Eunha guessed was the new, hot transfer student everyone buzzed about.

Among the teacher and new student's arrival, the remaining students within the vicinity scrambled to their desks, preparing for an introductory and then the beginning of the first class of the day.

"Quiet down. We have a new student, as you may already know," the teacher presented. "Why don't you introduce yourself young man." The teacher told the dark haired boy.

In all Eunha's life, she had never seen such an attractive figure. Sure, there was Jackson and his little gang of 5, but this one. This one boy caught her attention; this one boy made her want to drop her books and skip school entirely for him. If this what she was thinking while sitting afar, then what would she be thinking if he sat close by her?

"Hello, my name is Eric Thomas. I hope we can be good friends this year." He said lazily.

"Thank you, Eric. You can take a seat next to Eunha in the back." The teacher pointed at Eunha and told her to wave her hand to show exactly where.

Eunha's heart skipped a beat, knowing this dark aura boy was going to be sitting next to her for, perhaps the rest of the year. All around her she could hear faint whispers of jealousy from the other girls. Eunha glanced at Lilly's direction, who gave her a secretive thumbs up.

Behind her sat the little gang of the school. She could hear Jackson murmuring to his friends; "That's Eric, the Eric!"

Did they already know him? How? Eunha kept thinking.

There he came, striding up to her, interrupting her train of thoughts. Without uttering a single word, he sat in his desk and to Eunha's surprise.......

He went to sleep?

"Yup, that's our Eric." Johnson, the oldest and handsomest guy of their group mumbled behind Eunha.

The teacher didn't even bother...no, more like she didn't even care to notice him for the rest of class. Eunha gathered her thoughts and decided to pay attention in the last minute, when the teacher was assigning a partner project for literature.

She rang a bell several times. "Alright, listen up! You're going to to have a literature project about romance novels."

All the same everywhere in the classroom, groans in frustration and squeaks of glee could be heard. Lilly and Eunha exchanged glances, hoping to be partners like they always were.

"Hey hey! I'm not done," The teacher exclaimed, making everyone quiet down again. "I will be assigning your partners and you will be able to choose any romance novel from this list. This must be completed by next week this day."

The groans got louder. Usually they got to pick their partners and everything was fine and dandy, but this was new. The teacher continued down the list; Lilly's dream came true and she got partnered with Jackson. Eunha was awaiting for her name and as time flew, her name was called.

"Eunha Kim, your partner is Eric Thomas. Alright, that's the last...class dismissed."

As usual, all the jealous girls were giving off death glares to her. Nothing new, as this was normal in her life. A day would never go by with those girls glaring down on someone hanging out with the hot gang of the school.

She was about to get out of her seat to talk to Lilly, and noticed her and Jackson were already conversing. Lilly looks gleeful as did the toughie. Eunha was proud of her friend. She got out of her seat, when someone tapped her shoulder behind her.

"Eunha." She turned at her name called, and saw the smart kid, who was honestly way to hot and had such adorable dimples.

"Oh, hi Nathan. What's up?"

"I know you're partnered with Eric here, so just a little warning," Eunha's head leaned in concern.

"He is a cold human being, so be careful around him," She nodded in response. "And don't expect him to do a lot of work."

Eunha's expression changed abruptly to annoyance. If there is one thing that make her flip, other than her father, it was people who would mooch off her work.

"Thanks for the warning Nathan." The tall man pursed his lips together and nodded, walking away.

The rest of the class was gone, and there she was standing next to a sleeping Eric Thomas who doesn't do work.

I wonder how he gets good grades? She began to think.

She shrugged at her own thoughts and started to pack her belongings.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
