If you haven’t noticed, I love plants probably more than most people. Summer is my prime time for crafting and DIY since all my favorite flowers are in bloom. Whenever one of my projects turn out great I get so excited! It’s so rewarding seeing your hard work pay off!
The other day, as I was relaxing outside with my dogs, I couldn’t help but notice how beautiful the blooms in my yard were looking. Normally, I take a bundle of flowers and hang dry them, but this year I wanted to try something different.
Lilacs are my mom’s favorite flower, she loves the soft purple ones and loves their scent! Even though Mother’s day had passed, I thought she would enjoy a nice homemade perfume of her favorite blooms. The process is super simple and easy, and definitely worth sharing with all you fellow DIY-ers! Not to mention, it makes a great gift!
1. Heat your mixture and steep
Boil about a cup of water in a small saucepan. Once it’s come to a rolling boil, carefully pour the water into your container of petals. Quickly cover with a towel or tinfoil.
2. The next day
Pour the water into a strainer over a pot. You can throw away the petals at this point, they’ve already lost all their fragrance which is now in the water.
It’s recommended that you keep your perfume in the fridge to keep it’s fragrance nice and strong. Spray on your clothes for a fresh scent and everyone will be complimenting you!
Let me know what you thought, hope you enjoyed! I found this how-to on a cool science magazine called Sciencing! Check it out with this link: https://sciencing.com/make-lilac-fragrance-5899056.html
The article also suggests using oil if you plan to mix this into a hair serum or lotion. I highly recommend almond oil. I found a huge bottle online for $3 and it’s great for hair and skin! Sometimes I let my roots soak in almond oil for an hour before I hop in the shower and it does wonders!!!
