I'm sure you've all heard by now (it's all over social media) that Disney is having an epic movie marathon Friday May 27-Monday, May 30. And, when I say epic, I mean monumental, I mean magical, I mean spectacular. Their 100th movie,"Adventures of Babysitting," is making it's premiere so Disney decided to bless us with a movie marathon of what are some of (if not the best) Disney Channel Original movies ever created.
Disney, you have single-handedly made my hopes and dreams come true. Here's the schedule, screenshot and save it to your phone immediately (if for some reason you haven't already):
Okay, with the good comes the bad. I have two complaints. One, where is "The Lizzie McGuire Movie"? Two, "Luck of the Irish"? I want young Ryan Merriman back in my life. But, hey, you win some, you lose some. And, in this case, we just keep on winning.
"Quints," "Zenon" (and all of it's Zequels), "Cadet Kelly," I can't even list all of my favorites because I would honestly probably list 90 percent of the list. Instead, I'm going to gush about a few of the movies I am so psyched to watch.
"Motocrossed." We all watched it, we all loved it. It made every one of us want to be a badass and ride a cool motorcycle and do awesome jumps. Dean Talon was a complete and total hunk. This movie motivated girls to do anything they want, regardless of those pointless gender roles society created.
"Rip Girls." This movie made me want to move to Hawaii, invest in a surfboard and ride the waves for the rest of my life. If I remember correctly, her parents were adamant about her surfboarding and, like any rebellious child does, she went behind their back to continue surfing. And, in the end, her parents saw the light, which is so not like real life, but Disney Channel gave us hope.
"Double Teamed." This movie is probably the reason I played basketball for five years of my life. The girls were so relatable (besides the fact their skills were like, amazing, and they were 6 feet tall) and their struggle with being super competitive with each other had me rooting for both of them. (Between you and I, I always liked Heather more though.) The ending is the best, with the two of them wildly successful in the WNBA.
"Brink!" If you don't like this movie, there may or may not be something wrong with you, but that's nunya (if you didn't catch this reference, you better tune in at 11:20 a.m. on May 29). Every girl had the biggest crush on Brink, but then he turns into a jerk and you find yourself rooting for him to see the light. Luckily, he does. Disney wouldn't leave us with a bad ending. The worm sandwich still makes my stomach churn.
"The Thirteenth Year." Once again, another Disney star I had a crush on. Everything about this movie was great. It was eerie at times, it was heartfelt, and it had me on the edge of my seat wondering if he would get caught or not.The ending made me sad, when he left his family for his biological mermaid mom. It tugged at the heart strings. And, once again, it made me want to be a mermaid. Disney sure put a lot of dreams in my head.
"Zenon: Girl of the Twenty-First Century" and "Zenon the Zequel." Zetus Lapetus! Thank you for blessing with not just one, but two "Zenon" movies during this marathon. I don't want to say it, but I will: this movie made me want to live in outer space. The clothes, the lingo, the hair. When she had to be sent down to Earth, I was just as angry as her. How could her parents do that to her? Zenon saves the day and the space station in these movies and I can barely get out of bed in the morning.
Disney Channel, you're making a lot of millennials very happy. Nobody should expect me to do anything for those four days of the marathon because I'll be planted in front of the TV, reliving my childhood and all the dreams Disney Channel filled me with.
