Valentine’s Day is to show people that you care about them, but according to society, it has become a day where lots of money needs to be spent in order to prove just how much you care.
Whether your spending the day with your significant other, or rounding up a group of close friends, there’s so many ways to show someone how much they mean to you without having to spend a fortune. Here's a few ideas of how to spend Valentine's Day that'll make it one to remember.
1. Have a camp out, indoors.
Camping is fun, but winter weather is not. So why not make an indoor fortress filled with blankets, pillows and flashlights (Christmas lights strung about are a nice touch too). Heat up some s'mores in the microwave and watch some of your favorite childhood movies on your computer. Whether you prefer to do this with your S.O. or a group of friends, you're sure to relive childhood memories and make more of your own.
2. Volunteer at a local animal shelter.
Just because it's impractical to give someone an animal for Valentine's Day doesn't mean you can't help out at an animal shelter for the day. You''ll be able to help out the staff for the day, plus you get to play with dozens of puppies and kittens. It's a win-win situation!
3. Happy belated Valentine's Day.
Just because you have a tight budget doesn’t mean you can’t also have a sweet tooth. Try celebrating Valentine’s Day a on the 15th and go buy as much chocolate as your heart (and wallet) desires. Get comfy on the couch and watch some of your favorite rom-coms for a laid back and inexpensive day full of chocolate, tears and laughter
4. Volunteer and make someone's day.
Many different organizations such has as, hospitals, nursing homes, and shelters do something special to help brighten their resident’s day. Try calling around and seeing if you could volunteer or if they need anything such as food, crafting supplies, or just a helping hand on Valentine’s Day to help give back and make someone’s Valentine’s Day a great one.
5. Happy Valentine's Day, stranger!
Remember how much fun it was to receive valentines when you were younger? Those cute little notes were always exciting to get, so why not continue on the tradition! Write some inspiring or uplifting notes with your significant other (or a group of friends) and hand them out throughout the day. You could make someone’s Valentine’s day much brighter with a simple gesture.
This list could go on forever because there’s no limit to creativity or thinking of ways to show kindness. Valentine’s day isn’t about spending a lot of money to prove to someone that you care about them, but instead, showing them with acts of kindness and appreciation. Whether you spend it with friends and loved ones, or someone you just met, try going out of your way to make people feel special and make it a Valentine's Day that you, and they, will never forget.
