All over the world, One Direction's fans (such as myself) are busy hysterically sobbing over the recent release of the music video for their song "History." This music video has brought on another level of meaning to the song and to the band's recent hiatus. Although the boys (Niall, Harry, Liam and Louis) plan on returning after the yearlong break, the music video suggests otherwise.
The song, "History" is a nostalgic, "around the campfire," song off of their recent album "Made in the A.M." The melody is simple with constant hand claps and the occasional laughs to the beat showcasing almost all of One Direction's memories throughout the past five years.
This song perfectly illustrates the journey throughout the band's history. The lyrics "you and me got a whole lot of history" could be seen as the point of view of their fans or even the boys amongst themselves. For the members of the band this is them acknowledging that they do have a lot of history, but sometimes holding on to that history isn't always healthy and they need a break. However, for the fans, this is their way of acknowledging that they do have history with the band and will always be a fan. The lyrics, "so don't let me go, we can make some more, we can live forever," is an explanation that One Direction will always live on in the fans' memories even when they won't be around and the fans will always live forever in One Direction's memories.
There is no doubt that each of the members of One Direction will achieve greatness on their break and make a new history of their own. Although, we (directioners) do have a whole lot of history and hope to see One Direction back soon! Maybe this time with a new album and another tour?
