Demi Lovato, pop star and mental health advocate has been catching a lot of flake for her "rants" on Twitter lately. Demi quit Twitter last Monday after tweeting about her preference for Snapchat, since she doesn't "have to see what some of y'all say." Additionally, she said goodbye to Instagram. Her departure from these two forms of social media must of given lots of time to reflect because 24 hours later Demi was back in the Twitter universe...
Demi's proven time and time again that she is a warrior. In her first tweet back, she said, "coming back more honest than ever." But, that was just a little warm up tweet for Demi. If you watch her snapchats you know Demi is a fitness queen who's always warming up before her intense workouts. When she's ready, she can come swinging, just look at her boxing in the gym.
Twitter can be like a boxing ring with all the constant feuds that are started over what's said in 140 characters. Demi is no stranger to being in the ring, but I think she's one of the toughest fighters in everything she does.
In a set of tweets Demi comments on how "the world is weird."
"I bet our country knows more about celebrities than they know about what's happening over seas or global warming, We complain about how unfair paparazzi and tabloid rumors are but still buy the magazines..." Are you guilty of this? Demi then took a Twitter poll, asking how many people can name someone on the FBI's top 10 most wanted list? Out of three choices (Can name one or more, What's that, and Can name all of Bieber's exes) With the results so far, the Twitter world can name all of Justin Bieber's exes.Demi concluded this thought-provoking set of tweets by asking,
Is it our fault though? Has society fed into it or is this just easy business with everyone from blogs to magazines trying to cash in?

Who's fault is it that teens can name more celebrity feuds than wars?

Celebrity infatuation is nothing new. Ask your parents what celebrity graced their bedroom walls as a child via poster and you are in for a good laugh. While society's obsession with celebrities lives is familiar, I think it's been taken to new heights because of technological advances.
Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook and all other forms of Social Media were not present back in our parents' days. They didn't get to see what their favorite celeb was doing at every moment. Now our favorite stars don't seem like they're that out of reach because of all the technology connecting us. They let us into their lives and often times we see just how similar we really are. The similarities that connect us in my opinion should make us not care as much about what they wore or who they date because we can call our best friends up and hear the exact same things.
However, most of our best friends don't wear Givenchy dresses, carry Chanel bags, or drive really expensive foreign cars, a lifestyle that can be very tempting when you see it on your Instagram feed constantly from celeb entertainment sites glorifying everything these regular people touch/have.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think there is anything wrong with possessing these items. Like Demi, I think it is problematic that people, especially teens know so much about whose fighting with whom and who went where, yet they don't know about causes and problems that really matter in our society.
A lot of celebrities do a lot of great things to try and educate their fans about causes they are passionate about but often times mainstream media skips over these stories for stories that will "sell".
Demi for example is a champion for Mental Health Awareness and is the proud face of the Be Vocal Mental Health Campaign. Having been diagnosed with Bipolar Depression herself at the age of 19, Demi understands what it's like to be an advocate and survivor. Last October, she spoke in Washington D.C. with legislators about Mental Health Reform. She continues to inform and encourage her fans to become more aware about this important cause even when the media chooses to focus on other things.
If our media focused on causes like this, I truly believe people would be educated about so many real problems that we have in our world. The media plays such an important role on how we view and discuss things. Let's push them to focus on people and causes that matter.
