A Letter To Delta Zeta

It didn't take long to realize that I had found my home away from home.

Dear Delta Zeta,

I want to start by saying thank you for giving me my best friends. Before joining this amazing chapter, I never realized the impact that representing two letters could have on me.

I'm not going to lie—going through primary recruitment was a very nerve-racking and stressful process. Before recruitment, I knew no one. I wasn't sure what the process entailed, and I was worried that I wouldn't fit into any of the sororities on campus. Once the week-long process began, my nervousness diminished and the only emotion I felt was fatigue. Recruitment requires a lot of talking and the days are very long. There were times when I questioned if this was really for me.

However, when bid day finally came and I stood in front of the Campanile with hundreds of other girls opening their bid day cards at the same time, I knew that the process was totally worth it. I opened the card, read Delta Zeta, and began screaming and running towards our large sign along with my other sisters. We cheered and celebrated as if we already knew each other. This day is still one of the most memorable days of my college experience so far. In that moment, I knew that I had found my home away from home.

It didn't take long to realize that these girls are truly my sisters. No matter what, I know that I have a group of girls that are willing help me through the tough times and celebrate with me during the good. When I'm surrounded by them, there is no pretending or self-doubt. These girls have lifted me up and made me a better person. I feel comfort and I'm fortunate to have Delta Zeta as my safe place when life feels like too much.

Since joining the chapter, I have grown as a person and college student. I love being part of something that puts friendship, service, sisterhood at the forefront. I feel pride while representing our letters on a daily bases, and I strive to make my chapter and sisters proud. Never did I think that joining a sorority as great as Delta Zeta would lead to so many opportunities and lasting friendships.

I can't wait to take on the next years at Iowa State, and I look forward to the many adventures that they will bring. So thank you again for giving me my future bridesmaids and forever friends. I will forever carry a love that is ever steadfast for you, Delta Zeta.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
