From their strength, romance, and pure adoration for those lucky princesses, we have gawked at these gorgeous Disney princes for years. Finally, thanks to artist Jirka Väätäinen, we have been blessed with incredible, real life portraits of these hunks, giving us a breathtaking inside view of what they would look like in real life.
In my opinion, Jirka Väätäinen did exclude some rather popular princes who equally stole our hearts in classic Disney films, such as Li Shang from Mulan (insert heart-eyed emoji here), and Prince Florian from Snow White. However, he did a wonderful job of selecting the princes I am sure Disney lovers yearned to see the most. Perhaps, by popular demand, he will release a second round of portraits that not only include Li Shang and Prince Florian, but also some more modern-day princes, such as Kristoff from Frozen and Flynn Rider from Tangled. A girl can only dream.
Now, since all of these princes are equally dashing (seriously though…), this ranking will also take several additional factors into consideration, such as personality and unique bonus traits that each prince holds.
Here we go…
8. Prince Charming from Cinderella
While the classic Prince Charming is certainly one of the most strapping princes to have appeared on our TV -- and now our computer screens-- he is pretty bland when it comes down to having an engaging conversation. Also, it was pretty unfortunate that he forgot what the “love of his life” looked like and had to go around putting a shoe on every girl in the kingdom… Bonus traits though? He is willing to fall in love with anyone regardless of their social status, and he clearly is not afraid of commitment when he knows she’s “the one," which he proved through his sheer determination to find Cinderella when she fled the ball. And let’s be honest: he has a super nice house…
7. Prince Adam from Beauty and the Beast
Though Prince Adam’s luscious locks certainly take the cake, he clearly had some major anger issues, which are important to take into consideration. Sure, I would be pretty fed up looking like a beast too, but there are moments when you need to keep your cool, especially in front of your lady! Bonus traits: he has magical household items that not only can speak, but put on grand performances such as “Be Our Guest.” Also, he surprised Belle with his grand library and told her, “It’s yours,” (which is obviously a dream come true for her). Despite his inability to stay calm sometimes, Prince Adam clearly has the biggest heart and love for Belle, which of course, is all any princess could every ask for.
6. Captain John Smith from Pocahontas
While blondes do have more fun and his strong jawline is one to die for, Captain John Smith could be a bit egotistical at times. Putting that aside, however, his many bonus traits include being a born leader, outdoorsy, and, of course, wildly courageous. This was especially the case when he took a bullet for the chief of the tribe, Pocahontas’s father. Though he was forced to leave his free-spirited woman behind in his returning home to receive medical treatment, John Smith absolutely warmed our hearts throughout his entire love affair with Pocahontas.
5. Tarzan from Tarzan
Tarzan is quite the animalistic hunk. Besides the fact that he initially had trouble communicating with Jane, he is pretty much chock-full of bonus traits. He is adventurous, has an exquisite physique (obviously from all of that vine swinging), and is willing to adapt his ape-like mannerisms in order to better communicate and relate to the woman he loves. Not to mention, he is extremely protective of those that he loves, which was evident in his slaying of the evil leopardess that killed his parents and when choosing to stay with his gorilla troop instead of sailing to England. On every level, Tarzan is the ultimate ladies’ man – I mean, who wouldn’t want to casually slide along slicked tree trunks with the occasional swinging on a vine beside the man of your dreams?
4. Aladdin from Aladdin
Yeah, yeah, so Aladdin was quite the schemer and he lied about being a prince, but he is still one of the most genuine princes Disney has ever created. Besides his rad magic carpet and hilarious sidekicks Abu and Genie, Aladdin’s main bonus trait is his always putting others before himself. This was seen when he risked going to jail just to fetch some bread, which he then gave to starving children, and also when he granted Genie’s freedom with his last wish instead of becoming a prince so he could marry Jasmine. With his clear loyalty, spunkiness, and few hints of enticing “bad boy” habits, Aladdin makes us all quite jealous of Jasmine throughout this classic film.
3. Prince Phillip from Sleeping Beauty
Since Phillip and Aurora were betrothed at Aurora’s christening many years before they met, he kind of has that adorable “boy next door” aspect to him. In terms of his bonus traits, not only can he sing and dance, but he is also willing to face and slay the unstoppable Maleficent -- this time in dragon form -- in order to kiss and awaken his love from her cursed, death-like sleep. His willingness to go to any measure for love is charmingly irresistible. And not to mention, he looks awfully adorable in his little red hat.
2. Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid
Prince Eric immediately comes off as an amiable man who clearly enjoys the little things in life, such as the shore and his fluffy canine companion, more than his immense riches -- though I’m sure he enjoys that waterfront property to the fullest as well. Eric clearly has an undeniable admiration for the beautiful girl who saved him from drowning, and once he discovers that she is Ariel, he is willing to go to any extent to keep her; he will even go as far as impaling a sea witch with a ship! His suave and charming gestures paired with his love for the outdoors and animals definitely make Prince Eric one of the most desirable Disney princes. Plus, c’mon, who can resist that smile?
1. Hercules from Hercules
After putting aside that pompous phase he went through after just being popularly deemed a hero, Hercules is a one-of-a-kind Disney prince. By witnessing his initial determination to become a hero and join his parents on Mount Olympus, you can tell that Hercules works hard for something that he wants, which of course, is an extremely desirable trait. He is willing to give up anything, even the only thing he most cherishes -- his strength -- for the woman of his dreams. On top of that, he is also willing to dive into a pool of deceased souls to retrieve the woman of his dreams. And then, to top that, he chooses to stay on Earth to be with the woman of his dreams, instead of living on Mount Olympus, which was what he was working towards all of his life. Like, seriously Hercules, can you get any more perfect?
Well, all I can say is, thank goodness for digital composting, photo-manipulation, and digital painting, which is how Jirka achieved these fabulously realistic paintings of our favorite Disney princes.
