The Definitive Ranking of Halloween-Themed Treats

We all know the hype surrounding Halloween- more specifically, the hype surrounding candy and seasonal treats. There is, of course, the pumpkin spice latte or the homemade caramel corn, but these seasonal treats are easily purchased online or at a local grocery store and provide the same amount of festive tastiness.

1. Affy Tapple

“Affy Tapple” is the classic caramel apple, easily bought at any grocery store. These apples come plain or covered in M&M’s, sprinkles, peanuts, etc. Buy them in a pack of four to share, or keep all to yourself. It’s an apple so it’s healthy, right?

2. Candy Corn/ Pumpkins

The candy everyone either loves, or loves to hate. Brach’s candy corn or Mallowcreme pumpkins are also found at almost any grocery establishment or are available in bulk online. Put them in puppy chow or Rice Krispie Treats for a yummy and fun fall twist.

3. Caramel Apple Pops

Feel like eating a caramel apple without the actual fruit part? Tootsie Roll has got you covered. Caramel Apple Pops are delicious green apple flavored lollipops coated in an excess of yummy, sweet caramel sauce. These Halloween treats are great for giving out to trick-or-treaters or keeping all to yourself.

4. Reese's Peanut Butter Pumpkin

Sure, Reese’s Peanut Butter cups are delicious, but what could be better? The answer: a giant pumpkin with the perfect peanut butter-to-chocolate ratio just in time for trick-or-treating. The Reese’s Pumpkin is a seasonal favorite and rightly so. The giant peanut butter cup packs a ton of peanut butter in a yummy chocolate coating, plus it’s pumpkin shape is perfect for the season.

5. Pillsbury Ready to Bake cookies

People wait all year to bake the most delicious, easy to make sugar cookies. Pillsbury has multiple varieties of these quick bake cookies, from Halloween-colored with icing and sprinkles to bat and pumpkin printed ones. These cookies are cheap and easy for any college kid to make and enjoy.

6. Iced cookies at local grocery store

Going along with the cookie theme, remember to pick up some of those store-made sugar cookies at your local grocery store. Whether you’re completely inept when it comes to cooking, or just too lazy, these cookies are cheap and still delicious.

7. Maple Brown Sugar Peeps

A newer addition to the Halloween-themed treat club, Peeps has manufactured some seasonally flavored marshmallows. Colored to fit the theme and flavored in a delicious, sweet way, these marshmallows are sure to be a new favorite in your fall snack rotation.

8. Candy Corn Oreos

Clearly, Oreo HQ is not running out of ideas any time soon. Replacing last year’s pumpkin spice flavor with candy corn, Oreo takes a stance in favor of the controversial candy. Instead of chocolate cookies, these Oreo cookies are golden. If you prefer the traditional Oreo, try the Halloween colored Oreos, with regular chocolate cookies and orange-dyed filling. Same taste, just a fun twist.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
