In honor of Resurrection Sunday, I thought it would be beneficial to step out of the orthodox tradition, that I’m sure not only myself but many of us have found ourselves practicing. Instead of going to church, observing the special programs and leaving to eat a lavish dinner, I decided that this year I wanted to delve a bit deeper.
And not to say that there’s anything wrong with tradition… please believe that I value tradition, but I value truth even more and the truth is that resurrection goes beyond an annual Sunday celebration. It’s a life-altering revelation.
According to Merriam-Webster, the definition is plain and simple:
Resurrect:
verb
restore (a dead person) to life.
revive the practice, use, or memory of (something); bring new vigor to.
Now regardless, of any religious affiliation please think of this definition, and while you’re doing such consider the synonyms that are attached. Synonyms such as: revive, regenerate, stimulate, relaunch, restore, and etc.
So, back to my desire to delve deeper. Growing up in a very spiritual home I can recall countless of Easters and Resurrection Sundays. Several of church services filled to the full capacity with people who were excited, emotional and thankful for the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As a child, I’m sure I was excited (probably as a response to all of the joy and excitement that was before me) along with everyone else, not quite knowing the power of resurrection and what it even means to resurrect.
In reference to the definition that I previously mentioned, it is obvious that resurrection is far grander than any global observation, it’s a promise of victory.
And, I must mention beyond your religious affiliation this truth of resurrection is one that I urge you to not only consider but adopt as your own. This truth being that:
WE RESURRECT DAILY.
And I repeat, we resurrect daily! Each morning, we have an opportunity to “revive the practice, bring new vigor to” whatever situation we find ourselves in, whether good or bad. We have the chance to rise victorious, to live a life that is both purposeful and fulfilling… to live life more abundantly. The key being to remind yourself of this truth daily. Keeping in mind that resurrection knows no limitation but for any and every load there’s relief.
With this mind, it is also essential that you always encourage yourself, with the knowledge that you too, have a story of resurrection. You’ve seen death before. The death of hope, joy, peace, and the loss of many other fruits. As we all have experienced tumultuous times that have caused us to wonder, “what’s next, and if anything at all should follow, could it be deemed good?” Never forget those horrific trials, and honestly when feeling doubtful and defeated remind yourself of these incidents. Consider those seasons of life that you were counted out but not just others, but even yourself and take root in the fact that you prevailed.
As a common saying in the Christian faith goes “if he did it before, he can do it again”, if you’ve overcame before, what makes you ever think you won’t prove yourself as being victorious again?
Resurrection has no respect of person, to those who can believe they shall receive.
So those who have chosen to believe in the power of resurgence and their ability to rise above please keep in mind that our lives are a never-ending story of victory, grace and mercy. So the next time you’re looking at mountain remember, WE RESURRECT DAILY.
