Dear Public Transportation,
I understand that it is your job to keep the campus safe and make sure everyone is abiding by the driving and safety laws but please, please stop giving me tickets.
Do you know how hard it is to find parking on College Ave? And that waking up before 8 am on a Monday morning to move my car from the deck is close to impossible?
I get it, you guys have a job to do, and I appreciate the hard work and dedication but can it be focused on something other than where I parked my car this morning?
My parking pass is on Busch; a campus that I have never stepped foot on until I was given that ugly blue tag. Weekend buses are a nightmare and taking an Uber all the time is kind of out of my budget. I am a broke and tired college student who just wants to park close to her dorm without having to worry about racking up hundreds of dollars worth of parking tickets.
The other weekend I parked in the deck while it was still free, I woke up "nice and early" to move my car before I get ticketed and guess what I see on my dashboard. A ticket. You can only imagine how I felt in that moment. I picked it up, getting ready to cry and I realized that it was only a warning. But, why, why would Rutgers Public Transportation give me a WARNING if I did nothing wrong? Well, let me tell you! It was because my parking pass was hung backwards...and the blue wasn't showing. Really? Was this actually necessary?
I understand that there are rules and regulations that are meant to be followed, but sometimes I feel as though you guys go a little bit overboard. My biggest concern with safety in regards to public transportation would be the fact that cars fly down College Ave and George Street without yielding to pedestrians. Or it may be the fact that the bus system is unreliable and half the buses are on the brink of death. I don't know exactly what you guys regulate but please, I'm begging you, cut us poor college students some slack with the whole parking situation.
Thank you,
A frustrated student
