Dear Mr. Scrooge

Please keep your Bah Humbug's to yourself.

Dear Mr. Scrooge
Minsthorpe

So you don't like Christmas, I get it. You lay in bed and scoff at all of your Facebook friends who have put up their Christmas trees before Thanksgiving. Bitterly complaining about the bright lights hanging on the houses on your street. (As though they somehow actually affect you.) Hating on your neighbors and their obnoxious cookie plates, and the random people flashing you smiles, because how dare they?

Before you jump on the "Bah Humbug" bandwagon, take a step back and really see why we love this time of the year so much. The holiday season is full of happiness and joy. This is the time where my faith in humanity is restored. People are giving, they are spending time with their family and they are showing love to others regardless of the amount of time they've known them. There is happiness in the air. (I'm not just speaking about the amazing holiday scented candles.) This is the time that we cherish and create memories. Our favorite movies are on non-stop. (don't forget that some of yours are on year-round.) We can build a gingerbread house with our parents, siblings, or children, have an endless supply of grandma's homemade nut rolls and finally have a game night with the family members that don't make it home that often.

If this is the time of the year that we are able to fill that part in our hearts that otherwise feels overwhelmed from everything else in the world then of course we want this time to last as long as we can grasp it in our hands. The holiday season is short we only have a short month and a half to embrace the slow pace at work, watch the snowfall, and carry on traditions with our families. We love this time of the year because this is what brings us happiness, just like the fireworks on the fourth of July that you love.

So Mr. Scrooge, before complaining about us, and making comments trying to break our festive filled hearts think twice. It doesn't affect us in the manner you'd wish it to, it doesn't make us question why we thoroughly enjoy decorating every room of our houses, or why we wear our Christmas leggings every time it snows. It makes us feel bad for you. We love the holiday season because of the joy and happiness it brings, and we feel bad for you because you refuse to let that in. Mr. Scrooge, before filling your heart with the hatred of Christmas, give one year a shot and experience the traditions that made us fall in love with it.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
