Dear Me, Love, You.

If you could tell your former self something, what would it be?

We all wish that we could go back at some point and give ourselves advice from the person we are now. It's kind of insane to think that in our lives we begin as one person and end as another. My letter to myself from me now to the old me would look a little something like this...

Dear Me,

Lay off of the eyeliner. Oh and really... NAVY blue eyeliner? Yeah, that is never a good idea. Those skinny jeans might say you're a size zero but the way you have to hold them up when you sit down says that you're a size five. Get over it, no one other than you reads the number on the inside of your belt loop anyways. Comfort over petty peace of mind any day. Stress less, study more. Your chemistry grade won't ruin your life but maybe you should try to pay more attention in class instead of panicking after class. Study and study hard for your AP tests. You will regret paying the fee and failing by one point. The grades you make do matter but not as much as the people you connect with. Don't drop friends and family over a boy. Go to the football and basketball games your senior year. Sit in the student section and go to the pep rallies. Quit caring that you aren't a part of a certain crowd and create your own atmosphere. Go to senior prom, but don't spend $600 on a dress your junior year for prom. Make new friends but don't leave your old ones behind. Don't quit the gym and don't quit running because it is so much harder to start back. Oh and the freshman 15? That is all too real. Being healthy and being happy go hand in hand. Have that piece of cake...just don't have it every day. Do NOT and I repeat do NOT put that box of red hair dye on your hair. Quit caring that people stare. Maybe they think you're ugly, maybe they think you're a goddess or maybe they just want to tell you that your tag is sticking out. Either way...who cares? You're going to pass history, quit crying about it and start studying. Make your own choices but accept others guidance when needed. Creating your own happiness is the only thing that will matter. The brand of your jeans? Doesn't matter. Most guys have no clue what "Miss Me" jeans are anyways. Try new things but always be a lady. Sleep aid and a big will be your best friends in the dorm room. Do the paper ahead of time. The writing center is your new saving grace. Quit driving so fast, you'll get to where you're going by going the speed limit. Always carry pepper spray, gum, bobby pins, and tweezers.

Most importantly...remember who has stuck with you even throughout the navy eyeliner, failing your AP test, crying over boys and friends, no matter the size of your jeans or the arguments with your family and friends, no matter the color of your hair or the mood your in. Remember the one who has walked you through the storm and opened every door of opportunity for you and closed every door not worth entering. Understanding why isn't always easy but holding faith will make it always worth it.

"Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt understand hereafter." John 13:7 KJV

Head up sunshine, it only gets better and better.

Love,

You.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
