Dear Litttle Sunshine: A Letter To My Younger Self

Hey there.

You’re hurting, your eyes are so glossed over from the tears that can’t seem to be wiped away. You can’t even dream of life giving you a break. You’re telling yourself you have no one, and you believe that’s for the best.

Push here, push there. Just push everyone out of your life because so many people have hurt you. Looking at you I can hear your heart physically aching from the pain you’re feeling right now.

Ache, constant pain. Ache, push, and constant pain.

I know, I understand it hurts right now.

Just wait... because someday this all will change.

One day you’re going to have a smile from ear to ear as you stumble through your journey learning the scheme of life.

One day I’m going to look at you and not be able to hear your heart ache anymore, you will still hurt but it will be muffled out by the laughter and giggles of your family. Or even the happy barks your puppy gives when you come home.

Yes, you read the correctly. You do have a family. You do have a puppy. You have a place to go that you can call a home. One that won't change, one that you will never be asked to leave.

A family that is so big and diverse that you get an overwhelming amount of love every day. A family that you spend the holidays with. One that tell you goodnight and good morning. They love you.

A puppy that will kiss you until you can’t be kissed anymore. Whose smile will brighten your day any moment you see him. He loves you.

A home, with a door mat that says welcome. A bed where you drift into slumber and don’t worry where you will be sleeping the next night. A closet where you don’t have an emergency bag packed in case you will be moved the next day. You have a home.

Sunshine, there is so much sunshine ahead of you. You will make It.

We will make it.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
