Dear Human, Learn To Cook

Stop eating out so much, stop giving obesity your money, and most of all stop giving your body to gluttony.

Whether or not you're a fan of In-N-Out or Whataburger, or a fast food enthusiast... I encourage you to give up your greasy burgers and dry chicken strips for not only a healthier alternative but also a rewarding one.

If you live in America and are not informed about statistics concerning all Americans, you know just from general observance that Americans are obese as a whole. Obesity is a public health epidemic and statistics show that since 1983, we have increased our caloric consumption by 20%. With such high numbers of calories in fatty foods, 20% is not only too much, but it's scarily easy to obtain with the myriad of fast food options becoming so readily available and relatively cheap.

Publichealth.org goes on to say that not only are the caloric consumptions so high, but so is lethargy and inactivity. As a society where laziness is convenient, and with more products that reduce a human's need to actually move to do something, it's convenient to actually not do anything.

Even in the workplace, a 30% decrease in a labor-related work environment has occurred from the 50's and 60's. As a society, we are mostly sitting down at a desk which means little to no activity.

Learn to cook. Learn to use your kitchen. Cooking is a life skill that will never leave you worse off knowing - not only can you make your own food, you can choose what food you eat. You can have what you want, whenever you feel like having it. You learn how to shop for food and how to be creative behind a stove or oven. You can take food to work/family potlucks and get complimented on your skills. You can then learn to bake and make money selling cookies, brownies, and cake balls during the holidays.

Will you fail a bunch of times and nearly burn your house down? Sure.

Can you still eat unhealthily cooking at home? Sure.

But anything is better than spending money on a 1300 calorie burger and a drink. Anything is better than dipping fries in a chocolate shake from Whataburger and when you think about it, how do they make those shakes anyway?

I'm cringing just thinking about it. It's not even real chocolate. It's some constituted powder they throw in a machine with powdered milk that faintly obtains a shake-like form. Like what?

Learning to shop for groceries and to cook will save you money, improve your health and teach you a skill you could fall in love with.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
