Dear "Christian" Protesters

A letter to the radicals from a Mississippi State student.

Dear "Christian" Protesters
Reagan Brown

I'm sorry.

I am so genuinely sorry that you have been sheltered from the actual truth for your entire life. I'm sorry that you believe the only way to live as a Christian is by spreading hate and by yelling at students as they walk by.

I'm sorry you feel so passionately about an abundance of lies to the point where you feel the need to protest.

I'm sorry to say this, but get the hell off of our campus.

I understand that you think what you're saying is right, but it's not. All you have done each time you come to our school is disrespect large amounts of people and shame people when you are supposed to be spreading love. You hide behind this cover of Christianity, thinking that it makes what you're saying okay.

It's not.

As a Christian, you should NEVER call a young girl a whore for wearing a dress. You shouldn't be calling girls sluts for wearing shorts or showing their shoulders.

You shouldn't be telling students that they are going to Hell for 'going against God' in the way they dress or because of who they love.

I know you think that you're helping, but you're really not. In the single day that you were on my campus, you managed to turn hundreds even further away from Christ. You came into MY school and you took the foundations we have been building on this campus and you have destroyed them.

We have already been building up relationships with students who are lost and broken and who don't know Christ and you ruined them. Any interest these students had in following Christ is now gone because of your narrow minded and radical views.

I have been here for three semesters and you all have shown up EVERY SINGLE TIME. Do you not realize that no one agrees with you? Do you not realize that your views only express hatred and bondage as opposed to the love and freedom that comes with following Christ? Do you not realize that you are the ones who are lost?

I am so genuinely sorry to every single person on this campus who had to hear the hatred come from these "Christians" and I promise you, that is not what it's about.

Love and acceptance and freedom come with following Christ, not a one-way ticket to Hell for wearing Nike shorts and a tank.

Protesters, get off of our campus and never come back. This is OUR State and you do not have a place in it.

I'll be praying for you, protesters, that you'll all get your heads out of your asses and see what real love is.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
