Dear Little Brother,

First of all, I would like to tell you how proud I am to be able to call you my little brother. Growing up we used to fight just like any other siblings do, but I wouldn’t have wanted to grow up with anyone else by my side. A lot of my best memories involve growing up with you. Now you have grown into an amazing man, with the kindest heart.

This year you will graduate high school. Keep in mind that wherever you go, no matter how far away, I will always be a text, phone call, or FaceTime away. I will always be here for you with everything you do. While you experience college things won’t always go as planned, but eventually you will discover everything happens for a reason. I hope you find what makes you happiest, and what you would enjoy doing for the rest of your life. You are so smart, and I have no doubt that you will become extremely successful one day.

I can’t tell you enough how much I appreciate having a brother who doubles as a best friend, not many people are lucky enough to say that. I know that I can always come to you to make my days better. You can always make me laugh, whether it be from a stupid joke you have, or a story from what you and your friends did at school. You have always supported me through everything I have done, and I can’t thank you enough for that.

I am so proud of all of your accomplishments. Never doubt yourself or what you have accomplished, many people aspire to do the things you do. You have received many awards and honors, those are important, never let anyone tell you differently. As you go onto college, I can’t wait to see what amazing things you will accomplish.

You will make mistakes, but that is what college is for. Your freshman year you will discover many things, but all of these things are apart of growing up. You will meet some amazing people, and you will meet some not so great people. Keep in mind the only ones that matter are the amazing ones. College is hard, but it will be one of the greatest times of your life.

The person you have become is a pretty great one. No one ever has a bad word to say about you, you are kind to anyone and everyone. You treat everyone equally, regardless of who they are. You work so hard to accomplish your goals. You are reliable, you will do anything in your power to help people out, even if you have other things to do. You have the kindest heart of anyone I know, and that is one of your best qualities. Never change.

Wherever you go, whatever you do, remember how proud everyone is of you, and as you graduate high school, and continue to grow, I will always be right here for you.

I love you,

Your Big Sister

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
