I Went Four Days Without Any Caffeine

And my grades didn't tank

I Went Four Days Without Any Caffeine
The Daily Beast

I decided to go four days without any caffeine, here's what happened.

Day 1: A Cold Monday- My First Class is a 9:05

I woke up late, as usual, and decided to make hot chocolate instead. As I was running around my room in my usual panic I was just grateful for something warm to drink. Thankfully my first class was an easy one to stay awake for, my second class was a test so I was anxious and wide awake, but by my third class, I was feeling the slump. I could barely keep my eyes open during lecture and was looking forward to a soda.

That was until I realized soda has caffeine and that I couldn't drink it. My afternoon was crazy and when I wanted a soda to relax, I reached for a water and some gummy bears instead. As the evening went on I continued to drink water and vitamin water to try to keep me going. I made a point to go to bed earlier than usual to see if that would make me feel better in the morning.

Day 2: A Rainy Tuesday- My First Class is at 9:30

I was extremely exhausted on this morning, I barely made it out of bed to make some hot chocolate. The whole day I was in this tired haze that made it harder for me to focus on school. The cold dampness outside didn't help either. By the time I made it back to my room around 3:15 I was a zombie.

I laid down, put on some Netflix and crashed until I went to dinner at 5. The nap helped me refocus so I was able to hang with friends without falling asleep. I was still obviously tired but at least I was able to focus until I decided to call it a night around 11.

Day 3: A Blah Wednesday- My First Class is at 9:05

I learned today that my constant want to skip my GEP class will never end. I just wanted to lay in bed and sleep all day. I wasn't as tired and actually made Lemonade instead of a hot drink. Since I only had class until 11 my morning went by fast.

After that, I was able to do laundry and meet some friends for lunch. Then instead of being productive, I decided to lay in bed and watch Netflix.( Sorry Mom) That evening I hung out with some more friends and started feeling sick so I went to bed early and took some medicine. Overall I was just unproductive, not tired.

Day 4: TGIT- My First Class is at 9:30

Since I went to bed early, I woke up feeling rested and ready to tackle the day. I made some hot cider because it was a chilly morning and my throat was still itchy. I had class until 12:15, and then went to the library so I would focus on a paper I have due Monday. I was there until about 2 and then I grabbed a late lunch with a friend and decided to take a nap. We got to break the fast this evening so I celebrated with a Diet Coke.

Overall Opinion

Overall, I am proud of my self for completing this. Honestly, the biggest thing I noticed was how unproductive I was, and how dead I felt. I found caffeine motivates me more than anything else. I DO NOT think I could live without caffeine, and I WILL NOT give up caffeine again. I am going to try to stick to more healthy caffeine that comes from natural teas.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
