These four years are “the best time of our lives” according to every adult in the "real world," but I must say, sometimes it feels like I’m on the struggle bus and am definitely not getting off anytime soon. That being said, I do love college… I just wish it was two days of class and a five-day weekend every week. And I’m sure I’m not alone.
8:00 - 10:00 A.M.
Everyone’s first class is at different times, and I pray for those poor souls that have 8 a.m.’s, but luckily my earliest class for the week is 10:10 a.m.. However, that means attempting to wake up around 9:00. So my first alarm is set for 8:45 a.m., and then I have seven more alarms set at five-minute intervals after that. So Kendrick Lamar’s “Swimming Pool” lyrics should have been: Pass out (sleep), wake up (sleep), phone rings (sleep), ignore it (sleep), and so on.
10:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M.
So if I’m not accidentally sleeping in, then I’m scrambling to get some ridiculously expensive on-campus coffee so I can manage to stay awake in an 80-person lecture about something that I’m required to take, even though I have zero interest in the subject matter. To be honest, I do really enjoy some of my classes, but not all the work that has to be done for them.
LUNCH
Yay, another chance to spend way too much money on food! Sometimes I get to eat with my friends, but my schedule this semester is beyond crap since Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays I only have 15 minutes free between classes around the normal lunch time. Gotta love it. Anyway, I also use this time to finish the assignment that I was too tired to complete last night. Let's be real: Netflix and chill is much better than homework.
1:00 - 4:00 P.M.
I’m hoping for your sake that your classes end by 4:00 p.m. I have friends that have later afternoon and night classes, and wow, am I glad to not be them. So if you’re like me, you use that class time to not pay attention to the lecture, but to ponder your life and wonder if you’ll ever get a job or just be broke forever. #WillDoAnythingForMoney ..but actually.
4:00 - 6:00 P.M.
There will be days when I’m an actual productive person during this time, and I might start my work for the night, do my laundry and clean my room, or go to the gym, but this is definitely not an everyday occurrence. Sometimes it’s just such a long day that the second I get back to my room, I drop my bag, hop into bed, and nap until dinner.
DINNER
Whether you’re a freshman eating at on-campus dining halls or a senior making a meal in a microwave in your apartment, dinner is dinner. And it’s great because it gives you an excuse to procrastinate all the things you should be doing. Also, food is amazing.
7:00 P.M. - 12:00 A.M.
Library time. I don’t know about you, but I have to go to a library if I want to get things done. For some reason, every single item in my room could be a distraction. Not kidding, every item. So I usually venture off to my favorite library on campus, pick a spot, sit down, open Facebook, and go on my phone for about 20 minutes. Don’t worry, after that I start being productive. Anybody else notice that college homework is just a bunch of reading?! You know, unless you’re some sort of math/science/engineer major, which means your life is full of problem sets. Not even a little jealous of that. I would prefer reading 1000-page novels instead of completing problem sets.
12:00 A.M. - 2:00 A.M.
Have no energy. Somehow get home. Have a snack. Take a shower. Get in bed. Watch Netflix. Fall asleep. Just to start all over again tomorrow.
In every way possible, college is about a million times better than high school and I’m pretty sure most would agree with me. I love every minute of it, no matter how hard or exhausting it can get.
