This past weekend, I had the opportunity to go to Dally in the Alley, an art festival, in downtown Detroit. I had been looking forward to the art fair since I had attended last year and it was so amazing. I couldn't wait to get back this year and relive all of the excitement. The photos that are featured in the article can never do the art enough justice, but I tried to capture as much of the beauty and amazement as possible.

From the moment you pass the gates, the atmosphere changes completely. Everything feels so energized and fresh. The scents range from food trucks serving various dishes to booths in the streets selling candles and incense. Walking through the allies is a whole different experience than anyone would expect. They are lines with string lights and lanterns, streamers, and handmade signs that depict directions or just simply art pieces.

Along with the random street signs, more art can be found in booths in the streets that you can buy prints and pieces at. You can find anything from wood carvings, to paintings, clothing, stickers, and all natural products such as candles, incense, and tea.

Speaking of booths, I found my way into a one that did henna tattoos! The design was created by Sister 2 Sister Henna, and I absolutely love it! And if beautiful henna designs weren't enough, the second half of the artsy sister duo designs clothing. I couldn't help but give in to my wandering eyes as my henna was being done. Jwhite Original creates handmade clothing that includes, but is not limited to tunics, halters, infinity scarves, and jumpers. I highly recommend that you visit their sites, and you will not regret it!

Not only are there cool set ups, but the streets were also filled with insane sights and sounds!! For instance...

Acrobats flew from the skies! For a tip, she would reward the crowd with a flip!

And you could stop on the corner to hear a brief concert on the drums. There was culture in every beat.

There were surprises at every turn, including a parade of men and women walking for peace.

After walking around for a couple of hours, we decided to slow down and snap a couple last minute pictures so that we could remember this experience:

I would also like to acknowledge my gorgeous models for the day.

I had such an incredible time exploring the amazing city of Detroit with my friends and admiring all of the art that comes out of it. It has only gotten me that much more excited for the next one! Until next yer, Dally in the Alley!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
