Dallas Buyers Club // A Must See

4

Have you ever thought about the true value and meaning your life has or how lucky you are to be alive? Dallas Buyers Club will definitely evoke these thoughts in your mind. This award winning film is definitely one to go see.

Dallas Buyers Club definitely made a presence at the 2014 Oscars ceremony and those Oscars won were well deserved.

Matthew McConaughey, Jared Leto and Jennifer Garner all star in this impacting American biographical drama movie. The setting takes place in the year 1985 in Dallas, Tx. Keep in mind that the HIV/AIDS epidemic exploded in the 80s and many of the general public thought that only gays were prone to this deadly virus. Matthew McConaughey presumes the role of Ron Woodroof, a true southern redneck that can be found at the rodeo or his trailer home. Unfortunately ladies, McConaughey does not look like his usual heart throb self…instead he looks anorexic and run down. McConaughey lost a total of 47 pounds getting down to weighing 136 pounds in order to achieve the role of Ron. As usual though, McConaughey nails his part and delivers the message. McConaughey even won an Oscar for best actor in Dallas Buyers Club.

That was not the only Oscar won for Dallas Buyers Club. Jared Leto took home an Oscar for best supporting actor for his role as Rayon; a gay man that dresses and acts like a woman who is living with HIV/AIDS and is alongside McConaughey as his “business” partner. Leto also lost a lot of weight for his role as Rayon. He lost over 30 pounds and reached a weight of 114 pounds. If all of this intense weight loss doesn’t show that these men are committed actors and want to portray an important message to the public then I don’t know what does. One would never think Rayon (Jared Leto) would be on any girl’s radar, but behind all of that makeup and Rayon character lies a very sexy blue-eyed man. Jared Leto has done just about everything from being in a band (Thirty Seconds to Mars), singing and songwriting, to directing and producing and acting. Is there anything this blue eyed beauty can’t do?

E news interviewed Jared Leto and from the viewer’s point he seems pretty chill and easy going. This incredible movie was filmed in a short 25 days. The movie idea has been around since the 90s when Marc Forster was sought out to help direct the film and Brad Pitt was asked to play the role of Ron. In 2008 the idea was passed on to the director Craig Gillespie and Ryan Gosling was considered for the role of Ron. The idea finally fell into the laps of Jean-Mar Vallee as director and Matthew McConaughey as Ron.

I don’t want to reveal any spoilers for those of you that have not had the chance to see Dallas Buyers Club…so I’ll refrain from doing so. I will say that this movie is based upon true events of Ron Woodroof’s life. This movie is very serious and not to be taken light heartedly. If you are wanting a fun care free girls movie night or a comedy then this movie is not for you. If you typically draw towards one type of movies I suggest you step out of that usual routine and give Dallas Buyers Club a try. This movie is not sexy or glamorous, but then again neither is HIV/AIDS. This movie is a true reflection of the world, emotions, struggles, life and denial of an HIV/AIDS victim. You might think twice about the decisions you make after this movie.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
