Curly hair is a wonderful thing, but there are some aggravations that make you want to cut it all off and start fresh.
1. What’s your ethnic background?
People are more likely to be asked what their ethnicity is based on their voluminous, curly hair. They look no different than the next person, so why does it matter? Yet, people assume this automatically makes them more exotic than everybody else. Once or twice is fine, but when it’s every other person asking, it can get a little excessive.
2. Just brush it
In the world of curls, a brush will NEVER be able to solve anyone’s problems. In fact, it’s more damaging to brush curly hair because it will break the ends and create more frizz. Girls should comb out their hair when wet and apply a deep conditioning treatment once a week to tame the frizz and extra volume.
3. Hair is still soaking wet when going out in the cold
Curly hair is naturally more dry and with the addition of heat, it makes your hair more brittle and less bouncy. If you end up using the blow-dryer, you could leave the house as a giant puff ball. So instead, your hair freezes on the way to class just to keep the perfect ringlets in tact.
4. The girl with the pin-straight hair complains that her hair is frizzy
It’s humid outside and the temperature continues to rise, hitting the 90s. Your sitting outside with half your hair covering your face, suffering from the heat. The friend with her straight hair sitting next to you complaining because she thinks her hair is too big, when in reality it hasn’t changed at all. However, when you say anything, its “overreacting.”
5. Curls grow in width
Curls look nearly perfect in the morning, but once you come home from work or school, you have to hide all the mirrors because your hair looks got bigger throughout the day. It’s got a mind of it’s own.
6. Curls only last for a day
By the end of the day, the frizz erupts and volume creeps back in until your hair doesn’t look acceptable anymore. This leaves another annoying morning in the bathroom hopelessly styling it and wishing the look lasted longer.
7. It takes how long to straighten your hair?
It’s awhile. Most say at least 45 minutes to an hour, but it’s not like a tight curl magically turns straight with one swipe of the flat iron. Plus, a couple touch-ups need to be done throughout the day to keep the curls from resurfacing.
8. People envy your hair
No matter where you go, there is always that one person who comes up and says they want your curls. The compliment is nice, but they don’t understand the daily battle. If they only knew what they were saying.
9. You shed more than usual
You don’t actually shed more than others, but it’s more noticeable because people are able to identify your hair more easily. This constant cycle is not something you can leave and the evidence is black and white. Bring on the teasing.
10. Hats are a no-go
The irony. Thanks to a little extra hair bulk, hats rarely, if ever look good. Your head looks stuffed into a tiny cap. There goes one accessory you’ll never be able to wear well.
