“The Kiss” by Gustav Klimt 1908
I was never really into art growing up because I never understood it. The way this happened was kind of a shock to me. You know when you finish a really good Netflix show and you've binge watched all 1800 episodes, and you're like "what can I watch now?" I watched Bright Lights, Brilliant Minds: A Tale of Three Cities which is a documentary show that talks about different well-known places during a specific time period. One of the three episodes talked about Vienna in 1908. To tell you the truth I was bored at first, until they showed a painting by Gustav Klimt called "The Kiss." Not only were the colors used in the painting gorgeous, but I thought the story behind it was interesting. Most people thought the painting was romantic, but if you look closely you will see the women in the picture resisting the man's kiss. Her face is turned away from him and her hand looks like she scratching him (lol).
Todd Oldham 1995 Spring Collection (on the right) Fran Drescher from “The Nanny”
It's the year 1995 and fashion is split between grunge and prep. Designers like Gianni Versace, Todd Oldham, and Karl Lagerfeld all gave me chills as they showcased their collections. My obsession started with the Instagram explore page when I saw the iconic Fran Drescher from "The Nanny." The whole account paid homage to the outfits Fran had worn over the years on the show, naming all designers that made her the flashy girl from Flushing, Queens. Then, I was hooked– I started looking at videos on youtube of different collections during 1995. I even looked at vintage luxury online stores that had sold some the pieces I liked. Getting inspiration from different time periods is such a cool way to get motivated in your daily life.
I get inspired by random things like time periods and art. I like to say "an open-mind keeps you chic." No matter who you are or what you do with your life, never stop being inspired. I know I wont. Until next time, stay chic...
