So, it's been almost a couple years that I've chopped off my hair to grow out a new head of hair. Ever since my hair has grown out a lot, and it has been a great experience.
I have enjoyed learning about my hair and what it needs to thrive and grow out healthy. I've also enjoyed the many looks I can achieve with the same head of hair. The best part of the journey has been nailing down the regimen.
One thing about my hair that I love, and that we will talk about this week, is how my curly roots have proven to be functional. These curls have proven to be very functional as they have grown out and become healthy.
Back in December, I figured out how to make my wash- n- go style last an entire week. Ever since then, the functionality of my hair has increased.
What makes my hair functional is that it works as the week goes on. It's very convenient because it tells you when it's time to wash it.
As most people with textured hair know, curly hair does not get oily like straight hair does. In fact, it stays dry which is why conditioning and moisturizing are very important to a curly girl regimen.
Knowing this, it should not be a surprise to you that I can get away with only washing it once a week. At night, I just pull my hair up in a pineapple that I take down the next morning and I do not have to add any additional styling products throughout the week.
The functionality of this is that I can mark off one thing on my morning routine throughout the week. My hair is already in its base style, so I can either wear all of the curls out or do another style from there.
I can usually wear all of the curls out for about six days, on day seven it's a high puff. The high puff is a very functional style because it allows you to live an active lifestyle.
If you work out, cut a strip of your satin scarf and use it to make your puff. It is a functional style for dense hair like mine and it keeps your hair out of your face.
When I was first going natural, I thought I was spending way too much time and effort on my hair. Now, it's just a weekly struggle: that's an accomplishment.
My hair doesn't take an entire day to do, which is functional because I can still do things throughout the day. I don't have to straighten my hair, then curl it because I am just setting an already curly style.
At this point, it is at a length that is easy to manage. It is almost medium- length at this point and it shrinks up a lot, which helps with re- styling throughout the week.
My hair is one of the most functional things that I have. Give it time, and you will experience what I am experiencing.
