When NYU economics professor Rachel Chu is invited by her boyfriend Nick to go to Singapore for his best friend's wedding, she has to contend with Nick's imperious grandmother, as well as his formidable mother, neither of whom approve of her since she is not in the same class as them. Within this backstabbing environment, Rachel finds quality people who keep her sane in a world where Upper East Siders look like Mennonites, and some families are richer than God.

1. Nick

Nick is an NYU history professor who is very humble and sweet despite being a part of one of the richest families in Singapore. He has a great sense of humor and will go to the ends of the earth for the ones he cares about.

2. Oliver

Oliver is known as "the gossip" in high society Singapore. He's sort of like that dream guy best friend almost every girl wishes they had. He knows everything about everyone, and won't hesitate to spill the tea. Not to mention he knows everything about the best designers and their newest collections, so if he compliments you on your outfit he knows what he's talking about.

3. Astrid

Astrid is known as "the goddess." She was infamous back in her school years for pairing designer pieces with cheap clothes bought at a souvenir shop from whichever exotic countries she visited and making it work. Astrid continues to be everyone's style icon, with every woman in Singapore wanting to dress like her. Astrid was one of the few people Rachel felt comfortable with.

4. Sophie

Sophie is Astrid's cousin. She was really helpful towards Rachel during the bachelorette party, and her chill ways were a relieving and welcome surprise from the other catty girls at the party. Sophie, unfortunately, did not make it into the movie.

5. Kitty

Kitty Pong is fearless. Even though everyone at a wedding frowned upon it because she was just an actress dating one of the grandsons, she made friends with the princess of a middle eastern country. The princess agreed to come to Kitty's wedding, and gave her one of her rings, to the shock of the other wedding guests.

6. Charlie

Charlie is the guy everyone is hoping Astrid will end up with eventually. He's an important figure in the tech industry and helps Astrid to catch her cheating husband and his mistress, letting her escape the wedding quietly, stay in his Hong Kong apartment, and convincing his maid to keep quiet so it wouldn't get back to her family's maids. When French salespeople were rude to Astrid, he saw to it that the designer himself called the salespeople to berate them, and arranged to come himself to Astrid's fitting. He also convinced Astrid to buy 10 of their dresses even though she wasn't really crazy about ten "just to make a point." Let's just say Charlie is very strong-willed, and if he loves a woman he will treat her like a princess.

7. Peik Lin

Peik Lin was Rachel's best friend in college. She was a sweet girl that was unapologetic about her wealth, buying Rachel expensive gifts and throwing lavish parties at her townhouse near Stanford. Her family serves as Rachel's main support system while she's in Singapore, and provided Rachel with a place to stay when she and her boyfriend Nick were in a fight.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
