Crazy For Coats

It is finally starting to cool down and the leaves are changing colors -- just in time to get a new coat! Lots of trends decked the fall 2014 runways, but one thing is for sure, everyone needs a great coat in their closet. From trendy to classic, there is sure to be something that you can keep yourself wrapped up in all winter long.

Coat silhouettes don’t get any more classic than the peacoat. It does not matter who you are, what your style is or what you are doing with your life, every woman should have a peacoat in her closet. It is a timeless look, functional and not fussy. The typical peacoat is made of wool, lined in a silk or synthetic, double-breasted with six buttons and hits just at the fingertips. Longer and shorter versions are popular, now, as well. A peacoat is an investment, and I highly recommend finding a coat that fits you well and is made with quality materials. I recommend checking out J. Crew because they make wonderful coats that have a timeless quality that is hard to find elsewhere. Their frequent sales help those of us working with a budget.

Pink was a hot color in the spring, and it has made the bold transition to fall, once again. This girlish hue has become increasingly popular on runways in sweaters and coats. Although we first saw this splashing all over the fall/winter 2013 runways, it took a while for this bold look to hit the streets. Now you can find a coat in any shade of pink -- from the lightest to the brightest of pinks. Blush and more delicate pinks are perfect for the fashionista who wants a neutral, subtle pop to her wardrobe. Bubblegum is another popular shade of pink in coats. The girlishness can be subdued if you balance it with neutral menswear-inspired pieces. Want to dive head-first into this trend? Go for the fuchsia hue! It looks great with camel, red and charcoal, and is sure to draw attention.

Capes covered the Fall 2014 runways and are quickly taking over the streets, too. Layering is big right now. What better way to do that than with an effortless cape draped over your shoulders? It is impossibly chic and can be worn in several ways. For the days that are not too frigid, you can wear it over a fitted dress and tall boots, or trouser pants and a blouse, for a retro look. When it gets chillier, you can layer it over a warm sweater, or even over your coat, to look polished while staying warm. The cape with the biggest buzz is Burberry’s monogrammed poncho. Every model in the fall 2014 Burberry Prorsum took their final walk wrapped up in their own customized wrap. Celebs like Sarah Jessica Parker and Olivia Palermo have been spotted in their own Burberry ponchos.

No matter which trend you choose, you can be toasty and trendy all winter long!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
