Becoming a sophomore in the sorority world means big/little season is fast approaching.

Stay ahead of the curve and get started on crafting for before classes set in.

Now that my freshman year is over and my sophomore year is right around the corner, one of the biggest things that is going to change this year is getting a little and becoming her big. I’ve been putting off making big/little crafts the entire summer because I am one of the least crafty people in the entire world. I normally avoid anything craft-related at all cost, but this is a requirement, so I might as well embrace it.

If you are like me and are not gifted when it comes to crafting, here are some tips to make your experience a little less painful. 

First, you need good ideas. I am creative, but not when it comes to crafts. So, I went straight to Pinterest because it gave me hundreds of clever ideas to incorporate my sorority’s name, letters, colors, flower, symbol, etc., to make the crafts cute and unique. Following other girls in your sorority on Pinterest also lets you know what everyone else is making for their future littles.

Hobby Lobby is the godsend of the crafting world. Everything you could possibly need for your little’s crafts is available at Hobby Lobby. I bought 99 percent of my supplies there -- from tulle, to mason jars, picture frames and plain canvases. There’s even a Hobby Lobby phone app that shows you the weekly coupons, which helps a lot since this stuff does not come cheap and it will add up before you know it.

if you run into crafter’s block, take a look at older girls’ crafts that they received from their bigs. Throughout the year, whenever I was in a sophomore’s room at the house, I would make sure to notice their crafts hanging up just so I would have a good amount of ideas to brainstorm when I started crafting. 

Lastly, I suggest starting sooner rather than later. Take advantage of any free time you have, this summer, and start your crafts because it won’t last much longer. Most of the sophomores move in within the next month, or so, for recruitment; shortly after that, classes start. As the semester progresses, you might lose track of time and you to be ready for Big/Little Reveal without throwing things together at the last minute.

Even if you aren’t the craftiest person in the world, it still has the potential to look well thought-out and like you put in a lot of care and effort!
