Popular American makeup brand CoverGirl just released a new campaign-leader – and this time, he’s a guy.
Makeup guru James Charles is a talented artist who uses makeup to do more than just look pretty; his skills can be utilized for scary face in movies, digital animation, etc. He’s super talented, and does not identify as a woman. What does it mean to have a cover boy for CoverGirl?
In a recent press release, CoverGirl shared that “All of our cover girls are role models and boundary breakers, fearlessly expressing themselves, standing up for what they believe in, and redefining what it means to be beautiful.”
In just a few weeks, CoverGirl will be launching a mascara called “So Lashy” targeted towards all lash types. Using Charles as the fresh face of the upcoming campaign expands upon the all inclusiveness of the new beauty product, but how do CoverGirl users feel about the inclusion of men into their world of beauty?
I’m largely a fan of certain CoverGirl products like LashBlast mascara. At the end of the day, it’s a powerful, low-priced product that makes me feel beautiful. Or is it something more? Each time I bat my thick, black-coated lashes, am I making a statement about my womanhood? Are all CoverGirl users representing the company?
Regardless if mascara is just mascara, or something more to you, James Charles seems to coincide with what CG believes in and the shoot’s photos are exceptional.
