If I Could Turn Back Time

What would you tell yourself?

High school came and went in a blink of an eye. Now, here I am, in college wishing I could tell myself back then what I know now. I, as many others, made so many mistakes in high school. These mistakes however turned into lessons, and now I am wiser because of them. However, if I could turn back time, I would have so much I would want to tell myself. These things include:

1. Don't have a relationship

Your high school love most likely will break your heart. At this time in your life you should not be searching for love. Friends and yourself should be more important. Although he may seem like the one, you have so much more of life to experience. Eventually you two will grow apart as life begins to change. If not, you're going to feel like you wasted your time.

2. Don't worry about what other people think

It is very much a high school thing to worry so much about what other people think about you. It is hard to find yourself during this time. You should be carefree and allow yourself to do what makes YOU happy, not what pleases others.

3. Take in every moment of your high school sport

Time flies and, before you know it, you will never be able to play that sport again. So stop complaining about practice times, stop allowing yourself to just flow through the motions of things. Start appreciating every moment of this sport and allow yourself to enjoy it before it all ends.

4. Everything will fall into place

In high school, the smallest of things may have seemed like the end of the world. However, everything that happens, happens for a reason. Everything you are experiencing will affect the person you are in the future. Things do get better and eventually you will realize why those things occurred and learn from them.

5. Focus on yourself

High school is really a lot of putting on a front to please others. Realize that you should be able to feel whatever emotion you are feeling. You are in charge of your own happiness. You deserve to be happy. So focus on yourself, love yourself, do what makes you happy and screw anyone who tries to stop you.

6. Stop gossiping

The constant gossip does not help you or anyone else. It is destructive and hurts others. If you don't like being gossiped about, why would you gossip about someone else?

7. Hangout with your family more

After moving away, I realize how much family time is important. I now understand what mom and dad really do to make you happy. Please respect them. Stop fighting with them. Everything they are doing is for your own good. They care more than you will ever know

8. Appreciate your hometown

This town is apart of who you are. So many times in high school we complain about our town and how boring it is. But this town had such a huge impact on you as well as you made an impact on it. This town saw the worst and best of you. It guided you through everything. It prepared you for the future. Never forget where you come from.

9. Cherish your high school friends

As you part ways, you begin to lose touch with your high school friends. However, the few that stick around and keep in touch with you are the ones you know were real. You have so many memories you have made with them and so many more memories to make. Don't let friendships slip over boys, jealousy or petty drama. These people could possibly impact your life forever.

If I could turn back time, there would be a lot of things I would tell myself. However, every mistake I made in high school was just a lesson learned. I am proud of where I came from.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
