Halloween is huge on college campuses. Any excuse to dress crazy and act stupid with your friends is a welcome change of pace from the typical weekly grind. So when the calendar actually sanctions such a day, we go big! Costumes, costumes everywhere: some good, some bad. Some genuinely funny and others downright disturbing. But when you consider the perpetually reoccurring classic costumes along with the trends in pop culture today, it's possible to get a sneak peek at what your school will look like this Halloween. Here are the Halloween costumes you are guaranteed to see on any college campus!
1. Wonder Woman
A super popular costume before the movie came out, this year there is no doubt that you will run across at least five or six different Wonder Woman variations. [https://www.costumesupercenter.com/categories/wonder-woman-costumes ]You can look sexy, you can look fierce and all the while appearing to look like you've actually read a Wonder Woman comic book. The tiara, the wrist gauntlets, the lasso, all these things add up to a good-time costume that will have heads turning and frat boy Supermen swooning.
2. Pennywise
Clowns are the new ghosts. All the scary ghost costumes you saw when you were a kid seem to have vanished and been replaced by the ever-present scary clowns, with Pennywise from Stephen King's It leading the way. Expect to see a good 50/50 split this year between the classic 1980s version of the character and the new rebooted Pennywise. Whether you're Team Curry or Team Skarsga-- Skarrsa-- Skaarg-- Team New One, you're going to love getting creeped out by these Clown Kings of horror.
3. Donald Trump
Speaking of terrifying, you will probably run into some Donald Trump's this Halloween. I'm sure a few will go the traditional route and just add a Donald Trump adult mask to a business suit, but certainly others are going to take that same mask and put their Donald Trump in a variety of ironic outfits ranging from clever to "OMG! I can't believe they went there!" Political costumes are going to be everywhere this Halloween, and Trump is definitely at the top of that list. Keep an eye out for the Ride on Donald Trump Costume. 4. Stranger Things
From the nostalgic cool, to the engaging characters and easy to duplicate wardrobe, fans of the hit Netflix series well be coming out in droves, wearing their best vintage t-shirts, riding Huffy's around campus and wearing structureless ball caps. Meanwhile, ladies rooms will be packed with girls wearing blue peasant dresses and ill-fitting blonde wigs, arguing over who makes the better Eleven. Personally, I hope just one person shows up as the Demigorgan.
5. Batman
College guys are drawn to Batman costumes like moths to a flame. It's seriously like the default Halloween costume, unless they think of something else. Luckily, it's a really cool suit. The mask and cape are awesome. The utility belt's fun and sometimes they clip a beer on it. But rest assured they've practiced their painfully gruff voice for a solid three minutes and can't wait to say "I'm Batman" about seventy-five times. Small price to pay, I suppose, for the school to be under the protection of a veritable army of Batmen.
6. Jon Snow
Winter is coming and it's bringing more wigs and fur coats than a Neiman Marcus opening. The runaway popularity of Game of Thrones, all but ensures guys everywhere will be donning the luscious long black hair and Stark family attire of its smoking hot hero Jon Snow. While this makes an impressive costume on its own, it’s an absolutely incredible couples costume with a girl dressed as Daenerys Targaryen. It's a stylish and sexy look for a guy that doesn't require showing a lot of skin. Gotta love that!
7. Harley Quinn
Here is another one that you're bound to see different versions of. Harley's look from the Suicide Squad movie is going to be the most popular, with its modern edgy style. But there'll also be others rocking the character's classic red and black diamond Harlequin suit and Jester hat. The movie might have gotten bad reviews, but nobody can take their eyes off this new take on Harley Quinn. Girls nationwide are definitely wanting in on that. There is no better excuse than wearing this costume to act absolutely insane.
8. Joker
Similar to the Pennywise situation, there is a choice to make between Jared Leto Joker and Heath Ledger Joker. Those with an eye for glam and flare will choose Leto's Suicide Squad Joker look, while the others will opt for Heath Ledger's scarred up face, unkempt hair and full purple suit with tails. Needless to say, many of these Jokers will be seen walking around with Harley Quinns (and Batmen) but whether solo or part of a dynamic duo, your college's Halloween landscape will be peppered with white faces and green hair.
9. Tinkerbell
For decades, Tinker Bell's iconic tutu style dress, pixie dust and pointy ears has been a staple of sexy Halloween fashion. For sure, Peter Pan's fairy friend will be paying your campus a visit this year. It's cute. It's recognizable. And who doesn't love the story of Peter Pan?! Girls are going to love putting on this costume and reliving that fun! Oh, there's gonna be glitter everywhere!
10. Cop
Every frat party will have one or two guys ironically dressed as cops. It makes sense. Good-looking, well-fitting uniform, badge and policeman's hat-- it has everything you need for a complete and classic costume that you can wear to any party. But I have to ask, if you're dressed as a cop please refrain from pounding on the front door when you make your party entrance. It scares the crap out of everyone, and not in a fun Halloweeny way.
11. Nerd
The cultural image of a nerd has changed throughout the years, but the costumes have not. There is still the pocket protectors, suspenders, taped-rim glasses and high-water pants that made nerds all the rage in the 1980s. As a result, nerd costumes have become synonymous with college Halloween. It's not the most eye-catching or memorable of costume choices, but it is a very popular and practical one. Meaning if you're a college kid on a budget, you can put together a good nerd costume with not much money or effort. This ease of access guarantees several of these throwback nerds to cross your path this year.
