It's Saturday morning, and you're about to pour some cereal for breakfast. You open the fridge and you're out of milk. As soon as you announce that, your whole family turns their eyes to you in fear.
This warrants a trip to that Costco just down the street.
"Just get the milk, that's all we need right now." everyone tells you.
You drive to Costco, and as you get out of the car, you remind yourself that all you need is milk. You will walk by everything else and head straight to the milk section and leave.
However, all that pep talk flies out your brain as soon as you step foot into Costco. Suddenly you're in need of new leggings since they're 2 for $17 and just feel so comfortable. Although you know it'll definitely expire before you finish, you grab a giant tub of nuts in case you ever feel like having healthy snacks. Your freezer at home is already full, but after trying out every single sample in the store, you have to buy every single frozen food item you tried out. And hey, you're not a big peach fan, but it's on sale right now and you're just a little bit thirsty, so that has to go in your cart too.
By the time you actually make it to the milk aisle, your cart is already half full with a myriad of other things that you definitely did not come here for. But you're still in Costco, so your brain is still under the Costco spell. These items stay in your cart and quadruple your spending at checkout. There's nothing you can do about this, and you accept the cost.
The trip home is one full of shame as you recount all of the unnecessary (but kind of necessary) things that you bought along with the milk. You get home, and your family sees everything you unload from the car, and their eyes widen only slightly. No one says anything. Everyone expected this to happen, as it happens every single time someone makes a trip to Costco.
Still basked in the shame of overspending at Costco, you vow to never make the same mistake again. Your resolve is strong, except you've made this same vow after every Costco trip in the past already.
So yes, Costco is probably the most dangerous place in this world, and there's nothing we can do to stop it.
