5 Things That Cosplaying Has Taught Me

Cosplaying is a way I connect with my friends.

Me being the huge geek that I am, I love cosplaying and going to cons. I have made a lot of the friends that I have through doing this and have an amazing time coming up with new cosplays with them. Last summer my best friend and I went to the renaissance fair 4 times, I have also been to wizard worlds comic con 3 times, and I am going to Anime Midwest in July.

1. You can be someone else.

This is especially good for those who are shyer. I have seen so many of my really quiet or more reserved friends just blossom into the amazing person they are through cosplaying. I find it really awesome to see people become those that they idolize for a day or a weekend.

2. The community!

The cosplaying community is so supportive of what you do. If you makeshift a cosplay like my friends and I sometimes do by making it “Fancy (whoever we are doing)” They will support it 100%. You will always get compliments on your cosplay and they are really just super sweet to you.

3. Make connections

What I mean by this is that if you want to be a makeup artist, Animator, or really anything in the entertainment industry GO.TO.CONS. People scout you there and you can make a lot of amazing connections. I have been offered internships at Marvel Comics and have had a load of other offers just from showing up at cons and interacting with others.

4. Creativity

With cosplaying I get to create the entire thing. I get to do the makeup for it, make my hair look the right way, make the outfit or accessories. All of it is what I create. My cousin is one of the best cosplayers I have seen and they are younger than me! I am very impressed with their skill for this stuff and I know they will go far with it

5. Life Skills

Oh your skirt is ripped a bit? Hold up I know how to sow that hole. Need complicated makeup? On my way with my kit. Hair not working out? Let me grab my curling iron. If there is an issue we usually know how to fix it cheap and make it look good.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
