We've all been there, done that. We have all made the dreaded New Year's Resolution that lasts maybe a day before things go straight back to normal. But in reality, not much is going to change between 11:59 on December 31st and 12:00 on January 1st. We have to remember to go easy on ourselves. Change isn't going to happen overnight, or in the course of a minute to say the least. The goal of a New Year's resolution is to pinpoint a problem and goal and work towards achieving that. The key word here is work.
1. Be reasonable
Don't set goals that are way to farfetched and impossible.
2. Start small
Be realistic in what you can accomplish based on your schedule. Something as simple as making your bed very day is a great start to a New Year's Resolution, it's easy, makes you feel like you have your life together and it doesn't take too much time out of your day. The little things do make a difference, and eventually you can work yourself up to harder more rewarding goals.
3. Practice
Say you want to learn a new skill, this isn't going to come over night you have to work towards your goal. As a small fish once said, "Just keep swimming"
4. Accept the fact that not every day will be easy
Not every day in the New Year is going to be a great day, sometimes we just won't have the time to put aside for ourselves. Accept this fact and move on, pick things up right back where you started, don't just give up because one day was tough.
5. Know you have a support system
Set a far-fetched goal? Don't give up on yourself, know that your loved ones will always support you. If need be, ask them to join in on your goal. Wanna go to the gym every day? Ask a friend or family member to tag along it will be more fun, and less tedious.
6. Give yourself a pat on the back
In the end, no matter how long your resolution lasts, be proud of yourself for being able to point out a flaw and taking the time out of your day to try to change this or better yourself.
