I love working for Publix. I started working for Publix almost a year ago; August will officially be a year. Within that year, I have learned a lot about the company and grew to really like my job. I started working for Publix because the store manager that works in the Publix next to my house worked for my grandfather. Plus, I have a lot of friends that already work for the company and recommended it, including my boyfriend. I got the job when I was 18, starting as a bagger. I have since been promoted to a cashier and will be starting at the customer service desk in a few days.

There are many reasons why I love to work for Publix. One reason is the really flexible schedule. It's so easy to customize your availability and request time off, making it a very nice job for students. Busy with school and can only work weekends? No problem! Family coming into town next month and need to take off to see them? No problem! Last minute plans come up and need to give your shift away to another employee? As long as you can find someone to take the shift, no problem!

There are plenty of benefits that come with working for Publix. From a 401k smart plan to discounts on theme park tickets, there are many benefits for employees to take advantage of. As long you have been working a set amount of time and hours, all of the benefits are open to you! Publix offers health care, tuition reimbursement, free flu shots, the ability to purchase stock in Publix, a 401k smart plan and more. They hold meetings annually to go over benefits with employees, so everyone is always reminded of what they can take advantage of.

Everyone loves getting a raise. It makes them feel better, lets them know that they're doing a good job and puts more money in their pocket. The department managers give evaluations to each employee every six months, and each of those employees can get a raise every six months during that evaluation. As long as the employee has not hit their pay cap and is doing their job well, it's possible to get a raise every six months. I don't know about you, but Publix is the only company I know that does that.

I do have to say, though, that my coworkers are one of the biggest benefits for me. I've become really good friends with a lot of the people at my store and they are the reason I like to come into work most days. I plan on staying with Publix until I find a job for my career. It's a great company to work for, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a job.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
