I have a confession: I am addicted to Disney Pin Trading.
I never understood how someone could be so obsessed with trading pins, until I bought my first pack. I decided to pick up the hobby for fun. I traded my first pin, it was cool and all, but I still didn't understand the hype. I then traded a few more pins, and I got a collection going. I suddenly had a mission to complete that collection, but then when I was halfway there, I noticed someone's lanyard. They had a different collection, and it was so cute. I needed that collection too. I immediately went and bought another pin pack, so I could trade more. I promised myself I would just buy one to trade for fun, but I couldn't resist. And soon, I bought another, and another, and another... it was supposed to be a "small hobby" to have some "cute souvenirs." It is much, much worse.
It is so much worse that I now have a cork board with all of my pins on it. This cork board is organized by pin collection and number. I put careful thought into the placement of all the pins, because I wanted it to be beautifully organized. I still have some collections that I did not complete, however. I cringe every time I see an empty space, from that one pin that I could never find.
Sometimes I did not find the pin that I needed, but other times I luckily did. Yes, I have spent an entire day jumping from store to store in Disney Springs because I was looking for a specific pin. I did that awkward stare at a lanyard while walking by, for hopes that I would suddenly come across the pin that I needed. I shamelessly screamed when I finally found said pin. I have announced to the Cast Member that traded me that my collection is now complete, all thanks to them. I have pranced home, excited to fill that empty space on my board.
But no, it didn't stop there. I could tell if a pin is fake just by looking at the color and texture of it. I would watch others in front of me trading their pins, and either being jealous of what a good trade they got, or shake my head every time I saw someone give away a rare pin for a common one. My paychecks went towards the Ear Hat Mystery Pin Pack, because they were all just so cute, I had to complete the whole set. I mean... thirty dollars for five pins is worth it? Right?
I am anxiously waiting until I go back to Disney World so I can finish the rest of my collections.
But let's be real, I'll probably see a cute collection that I never heard of before, and start a new one. Disney pins are the absolute greatest invention of all time.
Send help pins, please.
