Going to concerts is awesome. It really is, the feeling of being around people that like the same artist you do, listening to said artist, and not feeling alone or as if there is no one with the similar tastes as you. For me, I love all kinds of Rock and Metal. I do not have taste for any pop or other music that you find on the charts as of late. If you like that stuff, it’s fine- listen whatever you want. You don’t have to listen to anyone when it comes to that. Someone says that a band you like sucks? Forget them. Listen to whatever you damn well please- I sure do.
Maybe 20, 30 years ago it was different, but currently enjoying Rock and Metal is not exactly mainstream, even with huge bands like the Foo Fighters or Avenged Sevenfold or Five Finger Death Punch. So, in a world that is so focused on pop acts and hip hop and rap, people like me are used to being the ones whose music tastes does not fit with the rest of society. That’s why concerts are awesome- you get to go see an artist or band you really like and you are surrounded by people who love the artist as much as you do. I went to a Seether concert where Saint Asonia (band led by former Three Days Grace Frontman Adam Gontier) and man, it was awesome. When Adam Gontier said he was going to play a song he wrote while he was with Three Days Grace, the me and the rest of the audience went crazy because he decided to play “Animal I Have Become”- Three Days Grace’s breakout hit. Gontier said, “You may have heard of this song before” and the first second of the iconic intro was played, it was just all of us in the audience screaming the lyrics as Saint Asonia played it. I have never imagined hearing that song played lived- much less after when news initially breakout about Goniter leaving Three Days Grace. And when I saw Saint Asonia was one of the bands playing that night, I thought they were going to just play their new stuff (which, by the way, would still have been awesome with songs like “Better Place” and “Fairytale”). And a couple songs after, he decided to play another Three Days Grace song- he said, “If you never heard this song before- where the **** have you been?” and then the song he played was “I Hate Everything About You,” which is another amazing hit song from TDG.
After the Saint Asonia set, I thought the night could not get any better but then hard rock act Seether took the stage. They played a combination of there older stuff along with their newest album- “Isolate and Medicate” (which is great album). Every song on there setlist I loved and knew because I have been listening to them for a long while now and I was pumping for the concert that whole week by listening to their music almost nonstop. Being surrounded by people, screaming the lyrics to the songs that you are also screaming the lyrics to, is an amazing feeling. You are not alone in that moment- you are apart of all of the fists in the air.
Concerts are amazing. If you love music, if you love a particular artist or band, try to go see them live if they are still touring. I recommend it. If you are into metal, go mosh- it’s fun. And always remember, rock on. \m/
(Fun Fact: I'm in the cover picture- I'm above Adam Gontier's shoulder! :D)
