On Aug. 5th, I was lucky enough to go see One Direction at MetLife Stadium. Most are probably thinking why a college student, a young adult, was attending a One Direction concert. Surprisingly enough, my friends and I weren’t the only young adults there. There were girls from all ages there to see the four most adorable boys on the planet. There were even boys, men, and a lot of dads present at the event.
Icona Pop opened the show and performed the perfect pump-up music to get everyone even more excited for 1D. When the boys finally came on, they opened up with fireworks (do we expect anything less?) and they played a long list of songs when they must have been performing for around two hours. Some artists get lazy and perform for an hour max, but not these boys. They played songs from all of their albums, some of which came from even their most recent album "Four." Ironic that the album was named that because it was their fourth album and now, there are only four of them in the group… Whatever. Let’s not focus on the horrible things such as Zayn leaving. They were sure to perform some of their most popular originals too, such as “What Makes You Beautiful” and “Story of My Life."
(One Direction on Good Morning America the day before.)
Not only would the boys melt your heart when they were singing these love songs, but they also would when they would take little pauses to joke around and talk, to distract us from the other three making outfit changes. Harry tried match-making a 9-year-old boy that was sitting front row. He also pointed out a very supportive mom and dad that were there for their kids but also looked genuinely happy to be there. Liam did a couple birthday shout-outs and they all sang “Happy Birthday” to one lucky 25-year-old. All four constantly reminded us how they love New York (ugh *tear*).
There were a couple of chants for Harry to take his shirt off but he didn’t. Although the boys made up for it by coming out with a four songs encore. They ended with “Best Song Ever," so even though we didn’t get to see all of Harry’s muscles that night, we ended on a fantastic note. You could have walked into that concert perhaps simply liking One Direction and knowing one of their songs and ended up leaving with a new found love for the group. There is just something about them that tears at your heartstrings and makes you wish with every bone in your body that you were their girlfriend. It may be the talent, the good looks, the dance moves, their great sense of humor, or a combination of all four. The entire concert was a night full of energy, singing, hearts melting, and happiness. The long, sad car ride home… Well, that’s another story. Let’s just say I will definitely be back next year, dancing and singing my heart out yet again.
