I am blessed beyond comprehension.
Each day, I wake up and thank God for everything He has given me. I have a roof over my head, a car that gets me where I need to go and food in my fridge. I have an amazing family, wonderful friends and an incredible boyfriend. I am able to follow my dreams as an artist and I have a flexible job with great coworkers.
What could I possibly have to complain about? I really don't have a reason to complain, yet I find myself doing just that at times. Like most people, I get frustrated and upset about situations that are out of my control. How can I complain, though? I have so much going for me, not to mention a God that is in control of all parts of my life.
The Bible tells us to "do everything without complaining (Philippians 2:14)." Instead of griping, we should be giving thanks at all times and praying to Him. God is always going to provide for us. "You can complain or you can pray, but you can't do both."
Each and every obstacle we meet in life is all part of His plan. I always held onto the saying, "He brought you to it, He'll get you through it." There are moments when we're struggling or unhappy and we forget that everything will work out in the end because our God is greater than anything we face.
There are many examples of figures in the Bible who did what they were supposed to without griping or grumbling. Noah didn't complain when building the ark, Daniel didn't complain when he was thrown into the lion's den and David didn't complain when he fought Goliath. You know who did complain? Jonah complained-- a whale swallowed him.
Now, I'm not saying God's going to send a whale to eat you if you complain; I'm just saying that complaining isn't going to improve your situation. It'll only make the situation worse. Plus, it won't look very good as a child of God either. We're called to "give thanks in all circumstances" because whatever is happening is happening as part of God's will (1 Thessalonians 5:16 - 18).
Pray on all occasions. Give thanks instead of questioning. Once, I saw a quote on this church sign across the street from my Granny Kate's house. I wrote it down to remember. "Don't put a question mark where God puts a period." He knows what He's doing. He's got the whole world in His hand-- He's going to take care of you.
I say this a lot, but let go and let God. It's the best motto to live by.
