This Summer, I am going to be studying abroad in London and I can not wait. It will be my first time leaving the country which is pretty exciting and that is what I am going to talk about in this article. For those of you that know me, you know I am not much of a planner and I like to just go with the flow. Some of you, I’m talking about you Cassie, can get annoyed with that because you like to plan everything. So, in light of that I am going to make a quick checklist of the things I wish I would have known sooner. Some of the things I came across on my own and many of them I figured out with the help of others.
- Get a Passport Early
This may sound like a no brainer, but I’m talking like if you don’t have one and you ever want to leave the country JUST GET IT DONE. I ordered my passport almost two months ago and I am still waiting on it. The reason? My original birth certificate wasn’t the right one. How on earth was I supposed to know I had to have a special kind of birth certificate? So, do yourself a favor and order it now.
2. Do What You Want to Do
This is kind of where a lot of people might disagree with me. I am going to London with almost no plans except to go into the city and see what I can see and meet who I can meet. I do not want to go and be a tourist, I want to feel like I’m part of the culture and part of the city. That may not be what everyone wants to do though. If you want to go and have an itinerary then do that. I’m sure I will end up doing a few touristy things. Maybe I’ll even vlog it for some of you. (YouTube instant fame here I come.) Ultimately I am going to have fun the best way I know how and that’s going to be to do whatever happens to sound fun that day!
3. Traveling Isn’t that Complicated
One of the biggest things I was and still am a little bit afraid of his making sure that I am on the right flight to where I am supposed to be going as well as making sure I do all the right things in the airport. I thought I was going to have to go through customs like 4 different times but thankfully that’s not true. I have heard horror stories about traveling abroad and after having it explained to me it is not that bad. You only have to go through customs once when you get to your destination and once when you get back in the states. Just do what you’re supposed to and you will be fine!
This is an extremely small list of things I have learned in the last few months but who knows, maybe there will be some more travel blogs in the near future? I will keep you all posted and don’t be surprised if I’m a famous vlogger by the end of this Summer!
