A College Student's Summer Day

As a college student, as much as we want to be different from each other, in reality, we are all very similar. We are all the same age, are pretty much at the same point in our lives of just continuing on with schooling and freaking out over what we will have to do when we are done with that, and just really like to hang out with our friends. So, as our summer is drawing to a close and we are heading back to school soon, I wanted to look back on what the typical summer days have been for me for these three months. And I’m sure that for a lot of you, you will find some of these things to be very familiar.

Wake up. Check your phone.

See the latest on Twitter and Instagram.

Watch everyone else’s Snapstories and admire how they can be up so late while you need your sleep.

Continue your snap streaks.

Go to work.

Binge watch Netflix.

Go to the gym.

Binge watch the Olympics for two weeks straight.

Go to the beach.

Get sunburned at the beach.

Post a picture from the beach (before the sunburn).

Go on a hike. Post a picture of the mountain you just climbed with a clever nature caption.

Post a picture of you and all of your friends from school with a caption containing the exact number of days until you are reunited.

  • Post a Snapstory of the sunset containing the words “no filter.”
  • Complain about how hot it is.
  • Read books by the pool and post Snapstories about them.
  • Sleep. Sleep. SLEEP.
  • Check your phone 7653423x a day.
  • Go out to eat without failing to post a picture of your food on some form of social media.
  • Complain about the Bachelorette and how you could never ever go on it but watch it every single week religiously.
  • Wanting to leave work, complaining about work, dreading work, not wanting to wake up for work.
  • Stare at the pile of college stuff you haven’t touched since the day you moved home.
  • Say how much you can’t wait for school to start, but at the same time dread summer being over.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
