Why College Students Need To Live More
ww.livescience.com

Do you really need to buy those Beats headphones? Or the newest iPhone? Or that giant flat screen television that takes up half of your bedroom wall? Do you need to Netflix and chill? Do you have to record every moment of your life on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, etc.?

We spend so much of our time trying to impress people. We waste our lives online, instead of actually living. We would rather stare at screens (ie. iPhone, iPad, Mac, television) than actually appreciate what is in front of us. Instead of striving to make the world jealous of all our shiny gadgets, why don’t we spend more time trying to actually improve ourselves? Why don’t we spend more of our time getting to know the people we care about and the world we live in? The following is a list of things college students can do to live simply, and live more!

1. Travel somewhere you’ve never been before.

2. Make something special for someone you love.

3. Take someone you care about out for a good time.

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F05%2F07%2F635981766588004941594359708_date.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=27&h=ddc3e87cfd645e2adce40da111b86b613ecc0673a3dd6ee033de0140b88eacdb&size=980x&c=3358745364 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F05%252F07%252F635981766588004941594359708_date.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D27%26h%3Dddc3e87cfd645e2adce40da111b86b613ecc0673a3dd6ee033de0140b88eacdb%26size%3D980x%26c%3D3358745364%22%7D" expand=1]

To the zoo, the movie theater, to dinner, downtown. Take them out to let them know that you care about them, that you want to spend time with them, and that you want them to have a good time.

4. Go to more concerts.

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F05%2F07%2F635981767892259404300708960_concert.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=406&h=d55b34e603d8981a543e7b76b1ded3fe261bd8b3b909f7d2da9643541f988dbd&size=980x&c=930183682 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F05%252F07%252F635981767892259404300708960_concert.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D406%26h%3Dd55b34e603d8981a543e7b76b1ded3fe261bd8b3b909f7d2da9643541f988dbd%26size%3D980x%26c%3D930183682%22%7D" expand=1]

While at said concert, do not record every second on your phone. Take one picture, one selfie, and then put your phone away and enjoy it. You know what is way better than watching a pitchy, low-grade recording of a concert? Actually being at the concert and soaking in the whole experience.

5. Go camping.

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F05%2F07%2F635981773034131048-1036591742_camp.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=233&h=5ad146765fc282b4bd2b5e3bdcddda1893c1dfc3399ebf1e60de6b0fb276fbce&size=980x&c=1869495855 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F05%252F07%252F635981773034131048-1036591742_camp.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D233%26h%3D5ad146765fc282b4bd2b5e3bdcddda1893c1dfc3399ebf1e60de6b0fb276fbce%26size%3D980x%26c%3D1869495855%22%7D" expand=1]

Go on more hikes – Mother Nature is beautiful.

6. Visit a friend or family member that lives far away.

7. See a Broadway/Theater/Opera performance.

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F05%2F07%2F635981777866396852-2011324005_theatermove.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=958&h=343049249793ebdcf4b1266fc1edecca7c2cc88e2f32ad72e1bee8f907bcd534&size=980x&c=252252749 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F05%252F07%252F635981777866396852-2011324005_theatermove.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D958%26h%3D343049249793ebdcf4b1266fc1edecca7c2cc88e2f32ad72e1bee8f907bcd534%26size%3D980x%26c%3D252252749%22%7D" expand=1]

8. Dance.

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F05%2F06%2F635981744520673280-1547722366_carlton.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=45&h=806f71d0eea4ab8b4b175120a808a0bdf992ff8e4737d29886350786fb4b8a40&size=980x&c=2890969766 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F05%252F06%252F635981744520673280-1547722366_carlton.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D45%26h%3D806f71d0eea4ab8b4b175120a808a0bdf992ff8e4737d29886350786fb4b8a40%26size%3D980x%26c%3D2890969766%22%7D" expand=1]

By yourself, in the shower, in the club, in the kitchen. Dance like nobody is watching, and like you don’t care if anyone is.

9. Sing.

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F05%2F06%2F635981748446107261-207261714_sing.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=253&h=e887b745ae2d3a0646e21a146eec984ed4be1d98a56ae3e8d575c425d1b72ac4&size=980x&c=3505944418 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F05%252F06%252F635981748446107261-207261714_sing.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D253%26h%3De887b745ae2d3a0646e21a146eec984ed4be1d98a56ae3e8d575c425d1b72ac4%26size%3D980x%26c%3D3505944418%22%7D" expand=1]

In the shower, in the car, loud and proud, even if your suck at it.

10. Learn a new skill.

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F05%2F06%2F635981746393218079-1481405381_skill.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=780&h=42805b2d94ba537329538437dba6f6c46140a41c492c88d0b70931b9364680a9&size=980x&c=2484887507 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F05%252F06%252F635981746393218079-1481405381_skill.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D780%26h%3D42805b2d94ba537329538437dba6f6c46140a41c492c88d0b70931b9364680a9%26size%3D980x%26c%3D2484887507%22%7D" expand=1]

Whether it be painting, playing the guitar, doing a handstand. Anything. Gain a new skill, because you can.

11. Journal daily.

As the holiday season draws nearer, many of us find ourselves drawn to the same old Rankin-Bass Christmas specials and the perennial favorite, "A Charlie Brown Christmas." However, I would like to suggest an overlooked alternative, "Arthur's Perfect Christmas." It is a heartfelt, funny, and surprisingly inclusive Christmas special that deserves more recognition.

Reclaim Your Weekends From The 'Sunday Scaries' With 'Self-Love Sundays' Instead
Olivia DeLucia

Laid back and taking it easy — sometimes that is the motto we all need after a busy week. Sunday scaries? Yes, they are valid – but you know what else is? A Sunday full of self-love. A lazy Sunday spent doing what you feel needs to be done to ease into the next week. Self-Love Sundays are a guilty pleasure that isn't only essential for our mind, and body, but are also a surprisingly proactive way to devote the upcoming week with a clear mindset.

So, what is a more suitable way to dedicate your week's end than a beautifully, connected playlist to accompany your face masks and journaling? Cheers, to a Self-Love Sunday (and a playlist intertwined with it to match). (Please note: "Sunday Morning" isn't included in this list, due to the obvious, but feel free to blast it anyway, we know you want to).

Sunset Girl

The sun rose and peeked through the sheer curtains. Rose’s alarm shrieked. The loud bells caused her phone to jump on the side table. It was time for her to get ready for church. Blindly reaching for her phone, she shut the alarm off and pulled at the covers providing her a cocoon of warmth and tossed them to the side. She swept her bare feet across the bed to touch the cool wooden floor.

Rose softly tiptoed to the corner of the bedroom to grab her clothes dangling on the arm of the bedroom chair. Scooping all of the items of her chosen outfit, she headed to the bathroom hoping that she wouldn’t drop anything.

Round, piercing blue eyes stared back at her in the bathroom mirror. Rose fingered the wrinkles forming around her eyes. So many of them bore signs of laughter and smiling. Slowly dropping her hands, she couldn’t remember the last time she laughed in her home with Tom. Shaking her head as if to erase the negative thoughts, she reached for her makeup bag and went through her regular routine.

Applying her favorite deep rose lipstick, Rose headed downstairs to make her coffee and bagel to take with her to church. The smell of dark-roast coffee swirled in the air as Rose sliced her cinnamon raisin bagel. Hearing the Keurig sputter with the fresh brew, Rose found the interruption of the stillness comforting. The toaster signaled that her bagel was done with a soft pop. It had a delicious golden brown color. Placing the bagel on the counter, she generously spread honey nut flavored cream cheese across both halves. Gathering her bible, notebook, and pens from the side table on the porch she stuffed them into her purse. Purse hanging on her right shoulder she juggled her coffee and bagel in both of her hands as she headed to the garage.

This Holiday Season, Choose To Be Eco-friendly And Reduce Pollution

Many of us have old magazines lying around, fully read and not of much use anymore. However, we can use their bright colors and prints as a stylish and trendy wrapping paper!

It can be overwhelming to see the detrimental effects of climate change and pollution on the news, from animals dying and forest fires spreading, but there are smaller changes that we can all make to reduce our carbon footprint, and it begins with our gifting season.

On average, Americans throw 25% more trash between Thanksgiving and New Years, which translates to 25 million tons of garbage. That's 1 million extra tons per week.
