It's that time of year again. The malls are bustling with shoppers trying to find just the right gifts, the radio stations are playing nonstop Christmas classics and college students are feeling like they are children again, giddy as ever for the Christmas season to start. But it's not for the same reasons everyone else is. Christmas means relief and a break from those long hours of cramming, and meal swipes. If you see a college student looking like she's about to burst of a gazillion emotions, here's why.
LDOC is upon us.
When December rolls around, there's one specific date we are all looking forward to: the last day of classes. This means no more throwing our phones across the room when our alarms go off for our 8 a.m. class. We won't have to drag ourselves out of bed and across campus to listen to that monotone professor.
High school reunions.
Going home over the holidays means a lot of time will be spent with family, but no break is complete without getting the gang back together. No matter the distance college has brought between you and old friends, you will find a way to rekindle the fire and probably stir up some trouble just like old times.
Don't forget about the family reunions.
I know they can be dreadful, but you've got to admit you look forward to seeing the people you haven't seen in awhile. And If you don't, I'd suggest just heading straight for the food.
Free laundry.
This one is probably one of the favorites. No more waiting for a washing machine to be open, or running back and forth from your room to the laundry room to check if your clothes are dry. From college students everywhere, we want to say thanks in advance, Mom.
Real meals.
Nothing brings in the holidays like a good home cooked meal. Now that we've been home for Thanksgiving and teased with our favorite dishes, we are anxious to get back home and pig out. Did I mention you won't have to pay with food dollars?
We get to see our pets.
There is just something about rolling around on your living room floor with your dog that makes it so therapeutic. It is difficult to pet a dog and be sad. After weeks of separation from your favorite pal, you can finally be together again.
No homework.
No due dates, deadlines, or assignments need to be completed. You've got a whole month to kick back, relax and watch more Netflix than usual.
Christmas movies.
The countdown to ABC Family's 25 Days of Christmas only happens once a year and we get to enjoy every second of it.
Traditions.
This one varies from family to family. Whether it's going to pick out and decorate a tree, or making those special batch of cookies, it's always fun to keep the traditions going from year to year.
Now that it's December, let's power through the finals and look forward to all the good things the semester break has to offer.
