10 Things Every College Student Needs For Christmas

A few of the literal and metaphorical things that every student wishes for when they come home for break.

College is stressful. We students are broke, hungry, and tired.

Any gift alleviating one, if not all three, of these characteristics of the typical college student would be greatly appreciated.

1. Money

Cash, gift cards, national transfer-money-into-your-child's-account day, we will take it ALL. These colleges make us pay thousands each semester then get upset when we can't afford the parking tickets they hand out because the decals (that we had to pay for) have expired.

Oh... and don't forget food... you know, surviving? it's expensive too.

2. Good Grades

The week after Thanksgiving is always terrible, but to make it even worse, finals are coming up-- and those things are worth a huge chunk of our grades. Prayers needed.

3. A Home-Cooked Meal

Now, now. We know that you absolutely love cafeteria food (!!!) just as much as you love the McDonald's where the dark-haired cashier knows your order by heart... But this falls into the same category as sleeping in your own bed. There is NOTHING better than your mama's fried chicken and mac & cheese.

4. Coffee. And lots of it.

Caffeine. K-cups, coffee beans, or already made. Add about 6 espresso shots and we'll be good to go.

5. Socks and underwear

This Christmas gift was taken for granted for over 18 years. But to moms and dads everywhere, please help. We are poor and in need of undergarments because we cannot afford to buy them ourselves (or we choose to spend our money elsewhere).

6. Speaker/Headphones

What better way to block out your noisy neighbors? Obnoxiously crank up the tunes so that everyone can hear them or bust an eardrum while walking to class: music is a necessity for a kid at school.

7. Fleece Blanket

What else would I wear to my 8 am?

8. Portable Charger

Athletic events, roadtrips, concerts, date parties -- you name it. Portable chargers are a material must-have for every single college student.

9. Board/Card Games

What better way to pass the time when you are procrastinating studying for tests, staying up too late anyway, or binge watching ANOTHER season of Grey's Anatomy? Monopoly, that's it. That game'll keep you up for hours.

Also, these games can serve as an outlet for an already busy college student, allowing us to completely escape from the world of lectures and exams for a fun night with friends.

10. Time

More than anything, we college students just NEED more time. More time to complete assignments, more time to hang with friends, more time to play that sport, more time to spend with family when we get the chance to go home for break.

.....

They say that the college years are the best years of your life, but honestly we students STRUGGLE throughout the semester and Christmas is our time to catch up on ourselves. Help a kid out!!!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
