When I think about my accomplishments, I always return to the cherished moments when I took a risk and played the unknowing game of life. This article is just one spontaneous action I have made in the past year. One year ago, I made the choice to attend a school that I had never been to. Most of my friends and family questioned my decision, but as soon as I set foot on the campus, I felt so strongly that I had found my home away from home for the next four years of my life. I couldn't have made a better choice considering the overwhelming abundance of opportunities that have appeared all over the campus.
The perks of spontaneity have really caught my attention this year as I found my personal saving grace through a young women's ministry that I followed on social media. This opportunity braced me for future endeavors to come. I soon was recommended to apply for a Summer orientation leadership position and decided the day the application was due to apply. I was caught in the middle between applying for the campus position or a camp counselor position, but I quickly decided to take the adventurous route once again. Soon after my interview, I was selected to be one of the fourteen students to help welcome perspective students to my majestic school in the enchanted valley.
Everything happened so quickly and with such little thought, but I chose to be spontaneous anyway. I always craved the thrill of the unknown and the unexpected journey that I knew could challenge me to better myself. So I took the challenge once and then again and soon enough, I was running on my luck for making big decisions in my life. My dad explained to me the creative concept that was spontaneity on the drive home one evening. He said, "You seek spontaneous actions based off of previous experiences you had in the past. As you learn something new, you take things one step at a time, but once you have it mastered, you manipulate it to create the wide unknown." I simplified his statement by saying, "You take what you know to make something you don't know."
Truth be told, I honestly would have never pictured myself to be involved and succeeding in the opportunities that have welcomed me with random and open arms, but I am succeeding because I made a choice at random and I am creating an optimistic outlook on the situations I put myself in. Living adventurously became the newest trend that I fell in love with. Quotes popped up that explained how adventure was out there and waiting for me to dive right in. John Muir intrigued the world with his words that expressed the love he had for the journey ahead. He wrote, "The mountains are calling and I must go," causing my love for where I was born and raised to grow stronger. I reflected on my life and remembered living as if my choices were "what if" or "maybe" and I knew I needed to make a change, so I woke up one day and made the decision to live freely through spontaneity. These experiences have changed my mindset, allowing me to look forward to the adventures that await me in the future.
