College Necessities

You'll need these things, trust me.

College Necessities

With back to school season soon approaching, many websites and stores have made their own lists of things you will need when you go to college. You will most likely need a lot of those items, but these are the ones I find most important to have in college. Even if you live off campus, these things can really come in handy.

Rain Boots/Rain Jacket/Umbrella

Walking to and from class in the pouring rain without these items is absolutely miserable. Save yourself the trouble of sitting in class soaking wet by bringing these items with you to school.

Command Strips

Most universities and colleges don't let you put holes in your dorm room walls, so command strips are amazing. They come in handy for hanging up canvases, picture frames, Christmas lights, curtain rods, towels, and the list could go on and on. Buy a bunch of these.

Clorox Wipes

I lived in a suite-style dorm my first semester of freshman year, so we were responsible for cleaning our own bathroom. These were a lifesaver because all you have to do is take them out of the canister, wipe your sink and toilet down, and then it's clean! If you are living in a community style dorm and have a sink in your room, you should probably get these as well to keep your sink clean.

Extension Cord With Surge Protector

You will have to plug a lot of stuff in like a mini-fridge, microwave, Keurig, lights, phone/laptop charges, etc. so you need this. I suggest to buy two because you can use one for your mini-fridge and microwave, and the other to keep by your desk for your laptop and other items.

Black-Out Curtains

I like to sleep and most college kids do too. These are probably one of the best things to buy when going away to school because they'll block out the sun to let you sleep longer.

Mattress Pad

College beds are uncomfortable. Enough said.

Planner/Agenda

With multiple classes on different days, sorority events, and work, my planner has become my best friend. I like having a planner that I can write on, but some people prefer to do this on their phone or laptop. Either way, it's a great way to stay organized while juggling a bunch of different things.

Reusable Water Bottle

I bring a water bottle with me pretty much wherever I go on campus. This keeps you hydrated and saves you money instead of buying cases of plastic water bottles.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
