If These Common College Majors Were Luxury Fashion Houses

Who knew college majors could look so good?

So, let's just be honest here: comparing majors to coffee orders at Starbucks is a tad overdone. I think it's time we take a different spin on the subject, spice things up a bit. I say we compare the well-known college majors to major fashion houses. Fashion is a constantly evolving industry, which created society's most iconic outfits, accessories, and handbags.

Without fashion, what would we be? Naked, that's what.

Here's a list of the most popular college majors and the fashion houses that represent them.

1. English - Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton is a brand steeped in style, elegance and tradition; which is everything the English major represents. Much like how a Louis Vuitton bag adds a touch of class to any ensemble, the English major works to add substance to the canon of major literary works.

2. Art/Theatre - Versace

With it's its penchant for bold patterns, bright colors, and cutting-edge designs, it's no wonder that Versace would be the art/theatre major's fashion house. The Italian brand was founded by Gianni Versace, a visionary who sought to combine avant-garde Greco-roman art with avant-garde fashion. The art/theatre major embodies all that Versace represents: creativity, innovation, and artistic expressionism.

3. Business - Tom Ford

Sleek, modern, and professional: these are words that describe both Tom Ford and the business major. Tom Ford's main clientele are upwardly mobile young professionals who are looking to present themselves to the world in only the most stylish and chic suits, dresses, accessories, and cosmetics. If business majors had a fashion line, it would definitely be Tom Ford.

4. Engineering - Comme Des Garçons

Comme des Garçons is a bit of an oddball within the fashion community, much like their engineering major counter part. Although its ready-to-wear collection is far more conventional, its haute couture line is something out of a sci-fi film. The architectural design of Rei Kawakubo's fantastical pieces can only be done through precise planning and numerical calculation, much like the daily work of many engineering students.

5. Education - Burberry

Much like the English major, the education major is traditional, conventional, and classic, which is the perfect way to describe Burberry as well. Much like how education has become the traditional way of enriching one's mind, Burberry is a traditional brand which focuses on iconic pieces that have become artifacts within England's culture. Any teacher would look chic in Burberry, as well as smart and educated.

6. Medical/Nursing - Balenciaga

Clean, modern, and sparse is the definition of the Medical/Nursing major as is Balenciaga. Recently, Balenciaga has been focusing on turning utility into high fashion: from clunky sneakers to wedged crocs, Balenciaga has turned the doctor/nurse's uniform into an haute couture must have. If us college students had the money to afford Balenciaga, I'd imagine that the medical classrooms would start to look like the front row at a Balenciaga show during Paris Fashion Week.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
